Okay rather than having multiple DQ threads of various topics I will just use this one as a general discussion thread.

Not sure if it is the best in the series as I prefer part 4. With that being said VIII is a very awesome game. It just felt watered down some after how crazy VII was with all the classes and jobs you could do. I really wish they would have had more than just 4 characters in VIII.

Other than that the game is amazing. The graphics are beautiful and the world is very big.

Have fun playing it....

This was the game where release delays were the final straw that led me to sell off my PS2 stuff

At this point, I'm waiting for it to ever go on sale for Android.

See I also am on the IV being the best one band-wagon...the story just came together perfectly (literally) and really hope this game can give me the same feeling that one does.

I read that this game is a major time-sink (which I need right now to pay off the remaining $1000 off my credit card).

Like you said the graphics are magnificant, Toriyama is a god amongst men...they just jumped right out at me and am looking forward to seeing all the diverse enviornments in the game.

I love the art style by Akira, story is fun, i just for some reason can never get into the overly simplistic battle systems DQ/DW always seem to have.

Might need to give this another shot. I nearly shit my pants when the main character could go super saiyan basically.

The game is for sure a time sink so it will keep you busy. I think I was close to 80 hrs when I beat it.

The best dragon quest time sink is VII lol. I was at 125 hrs when I finished that game. Dragon Quest is my favorite series so I have played them all.

Can't believe it took me this long to play this game, anybody have any thoughts or opinions?
One of my favorite games of all time.  Beautiful to look at, great voice work, classic gameplay with nice additions.  Really looking forward to the 3DS port

From what I have played through (or put significant time into):

VIII > IV > VII > I > VI

That is another thing that stood out right away was the voice acting.....totally does not fit the stereotypical terrible English voice-overs that most JRPGs have, this was done "well".

Just want to get off work and go play that bastard!

I have been really feeling the Dragon Quest series lately......I would be willing to drop all the money to get 2+3 all fully CIB, already have 1 and 4.

Need to get a repro of VI as well since I am missing that one...oh yeah and VII on ps1.....and all the other spinoffs....

Man this is going to be a money pit for fuck sakes.

Dragon Quest 8.....simply amazing. My only complaint is that I was hoping for a cooler...ah,I don't want to give anything away.

And if you love DQ 4,there's a nice little tribute to it in the game that you will definitely enjoy. I did.

The only one I use to own was the first one, though I emulated the first four back in like 2007. They never "clicked" with me, but I'm older and wiser now

I will say that the DQ 4 homage could be missed completely.

I want to look it up but would rather do it on my own, I beat DQ4 literally 2 months ago so it shouldn't be too hard.....if it is a side quest or something then ya.......might miss er.

I feel like the DQ games are a bit more difficult than say FF, hell on DQ8 I was like eh first boss I don't need to grind out for some gear........nope wrong.

Yeppers,a side quest. And the DQ 4 homage is not tiny medals, although that would be one I suppose since they originated in DQ 4.

The side quests are fun, unlike many other games,so I would definitely recommend doing them.

Ooooo yeah I knew about the tiny medals.....another thing that is awesome about this game is the monster index and stuff in the menus where it shows what enemies you have defeated etc.

All this talk makes me really want to replay this game. I think 7 is an underrated iteration as well.

Interestingly enough long before I was into game collecting I'd always look for dragon warrior 2 when I was cd shopping at my local record exchange and it was my very first eBay purchase. I still really need 3 & 4 but they're so damn expensive
