Hello everyone and welcome to round 1 of the Summer Tournament!  The votes are in and the game for round 1 is going to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.  Contestants, please read the rules very carefully for your tier.  Failure to play by the correct rules could result in your score being disqualified.  Here are the rules for each tier:

Tier 1
  • 1 life only (you only get 1 life and you must take your picture after you die once)
  • 1 player only
  • Play as whichever turtle you choose
  • Get the lowest score possible
  • Furthest progression in the game takes precedence

Tier 2

  • 2 lives only (you only get two lives total and must take your picture after you die twice)
  • 1 player only
  • Play as whichever turtle you choose
  • Get the lowest score possible
  • Furthest progression in the game takes precedence

Tier 3
  • 3 lives only (you only get three lives total and must take your picture after you die three times)
  • 1 player only
  • Play as whichever turtle you choose
  • Get the lowest score possible
  • Furthest progression in the game takes precedence

Remember, the top 7 scores in each tier will advance to round 2.  I have included a poll for the round 2 game above for everyone to vote in.  The game with the top vote will be the game the participants play in round 2.  Since a Beat 'Em Up is being played in round 1, there will be no Beat 'Em Up game in the next poll.  I also changed up the Arcade genre option and removed Arkanoid.  The voting will end on Sunday, 7/14/13 at 9:30 PM NA time.  If two games are tied for votes, I will choose the game that is played in round 2.  Have fun voting

The contest ends Sunday, 7/14/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Here's the official tournament thread for all the details on the tournament itself, plus a place for smack talk

Do we post our scores here or will there be a separate thread for each tier?

Post your scores here like you normally would for each contest.  I have a list of everyone's tier and will know which tier you belong in.  I'll posted scores in the first post as they roll in likely I do with the weekly contests.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

As usual, I'll just roll out of bed and post amazing my score in the morning then.

Edit: Make sure to vote Baseball so I don't have to overwork myself next week either!

UPDATED: 727 (Game Complete.)

A sub 700 game seems unlikely, but with some really good timing and a little bit of luck, it might be possible. I'm satisfied with this run.

Thanks for writing. I apologize for the delay in responding to your email during this busy time of year.
In regard to your email, it is great to hear that you have found a copy of Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64. Perfect dark was a first person shooter game that was released in May of 2000. I personally enjoyed this game a lot during my mid-teen years since it allows for up to four players to play at one time. All the Perfect Dark cartridges were black.

I hope this information is what you are looking for.

-
Response I received from Nintendo customer support when I asked if they knew any thing about a black Perfect Dark cart.

Maybe you should have everyone post their scores followed by what tier they are in. It would be easier on you since you wouldn't have to constantly look to see who is in what tier.

We can keep updating our scores, right? lol That rule hasn't changed from the weekly contests? Not a "One score and you are done" rule.

Yes, you may keep updating your scores as the week goes on. The same rules as the weekly contests apply to the tournament. And logo, you'll have to redo your attempt. You used too many lives. You only get to use 3 lives total in Tier 3. Based on your score, you used 5 lives since you get an extra life every 200 points.

Yup, you're right. I wasn't paying attention to getting extra lives. I will fix that soon.

Not a problem, dude. Everyone in tier 2 and tier 3 be careful to watch your lives as you're playing since you get an extra life every 200 points. As a reminder, tier 2 gets to use 2 lives total and tier 3 gets to use 3 lives total. Also, since I didn't mention it earlier, scores posted up to this point won't be effected. Once you have used your allotted life or lives, you must stop playing and take your picture. So, for tier 1, you must take your picture right after you die, tier 2 right after losing your second life, and tier 3 right after losing your third life. You must have a full health bar when you take your picture and may not play anymore after losing your allotted lives. I will update the rules later on a computer since it is too hard for me to edit posts on my phone.

You can pause it right as he goes flying from the final hit, but you have to be quick.
