Hey everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the weekly contests.  For this week, Since I'm a big hockey buff, I wanted to salute the NHL and the upcoming trade deadline (which is actually April 3) with an NES classic: Ice Hockey.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Choose USA as your team and Canada as the CPU team
  • Play on Speed 1, Time 7
  • Choose whichever size players you want
  • Play a whole game and at the end, take a picture of the score
  • Greatest differential between goals for and goals against wins
  • Ex: USA 10 Canada 5 = score of 5
  • Ex: USA 5 Canada 10 = score of -5
  • GENRE: Sports

The contest ends Sunday, 3/31/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Interesting contest. We did just this in the 2600 comp with Ice Hockey. Real fun and challenging.

USA beating Canada? This makes me sad.

What happens if two people have the same differential? Does it go to the person with more points total, or do they just share the ranking?

There will probably be some really high scores on this one. I played a USA vs Canada game just a little bit ago for practice and won 12-2 which didn't seem too bad considering I've never played this before.

Will beating Canada by 10 goals in Ice Hockey for the NES ease the pain of those silver medals?

Doubt it

Keep missing out on the first score so here y'all go. Still figuring out what the best player combo is, I am thinking of going extreme with two fatties and two skinnies.

It's alright, american football is our sport anyway. Although I love hockey,I'm sure a large part of America views hockey like Canadians probably view the CFL.

My prefered combo was 2 fatties and 2 mediums. I wish I owned this game right now, used to be pretty good at it :/

Kevin, after doing the Tetris one, I think I might now be hooked!

Gotta take a trip to my local game store (like I don't go there once a week anyway) and grab a copy of this now.

Thanks for running these. Don't know why I didn't do em before

Why USA only? Why can't I choose Czech Republic, as I'm half Czech

Fun game, I managed a 12 to 3 score last night with a quick go. Question though, is there anything you can do to display your score after the screen goes away? Each picture I took was mid-blink so it showed nothing. Annoying.

If the score goes away quickly (on any game), the best advice I can give is to videotape your gameplay, so you can play it back and get a good photo.

For Ice Hockey, you can also just pause the game before the clock runs out.  Perhaps late in the game you can take a snapshot after each goal.

Good idea, I'll try to snap a pic before time runs out. I paused at the ending screen, but it doesn't display the score when you do.

You can pause the game while your team is celebrating their win.I know the score blinks when you win so you just have to pause it when the score is on the screen. It's pretty easy to do. Everyone who has posted scores has done it. And from the last few scores that were posted I guess I should have played this game as a kid. I was a Blades of Steel guy and never bothered with this game.
