You could allow people to donate until you have enough... Or you could do what the guy at nesreproductions.com does. As in, allow people to send YOU the carts that the game is gonna be on.... Or you could... I don't know, its just a couple dumb suggestions...

Donations aren't our style, and we're looking to use all new parts, so the donor part isn't needed.  We've done many, many reproduction runs in the past, we are just going over cost effective options for a famicom run.  Appreciate the suggestions regardless though.

Actually, I could do de-translation, since at one point, I tried to translate this game back to japanese (without speaking the language itself).

Best thing I seen on the Protoboard, can't wait to see more stuff about the prototype and the availablity of the reproduction carts.

My speculation about the pods and the fried foods was a slap stick reference to the movie The Fly, the pods resemble the telepods that Seth Brundle made and the first organic thing he put through the pods after teaching it to deal with flesh was a steak. So maybe the game designers thought it would be funny to make mutated shish Kabob , onion ring and giant shrimp.

Either way I am stoked to see what was cut and the changes!

I forgot about the steak. That would make more sense as to why food is bouncing around. I still think it's odd as to why they chose fried foods. Maybe the flavor text before they fight will shed some insight?

Almost all the bosses speech has been fixed. The only problem, that the 3rd boss on Level one is still that Jack-o'-lantern.

With all due respect Mr. Norbert, your screen caps are likely to be confusing to the casual reader. This screen is totally unrelated to the prototype being discussed, though I don't know if everyone would immediately pick up on that.

Thank you for this, Mark!  When I was reading this thread, I sort of felt the same way about some of the things being posted by said poster.  A bit confusing for someone that hasn't been following the thread from the start.

Well, I still don't know how easily. I believe the pumkpin boss doesn't have very easy tiles to work with to recreate the ape character. Do you have any plans for it?

I don't know yet. The beta restiration page is dead for years, so I was like: I will gonna do this. One of my friends is a sprite hacker, so maybe he can do it.

The proto can't be recreated with information currently available, it's straight impossible.  Even with screen caps, you'd have to redraw a ton of characters from scratch.  From there, you'd have to program all of their movements from scracth.  Beyond that, you'd have to edit levels as well.

A restoration is a cute idea, but it just can't happen without the proto ROM.

Are you suggesting that some of the level layouts are even changed? I didn't know it was that different…
The "Monster Party Restoration" project did produce some useful tools, such as a level editor and also a few users were capable of changing AI movement and routines. Never say never!

Needless to say, the proto now is now in safe hands there's no need to do any of this, so it's probably a waste of time to focus on a restoration.

Not suggesting, confirming.  There is more than one level that has a different layout than the US release.

Sorry, but I gotta say never anyway!  Without the ROM, the information is legitimately not available for the "restoration" to occur.  After the ROM is made public that will obviously change.  Until then, it just can't happen.

I think the project is great, but asking us for more stuff to get that project closer to completion isn't something I'm interested in entertaining.  Aside from that, the pictures with little context only serve to confuse people following this thread.
