So, Florida may be hit by another hurricane, probably a category 3 or 4.

It will probably hit Sunday night/Monday morning, everyone's going crazy trying to get gas and food (It's always 3-4 days before the hurricane when everybody does shopping it seems. lol)

Being through all the hurricanes since Andrew, I may sound a bit apathetic since it's a rodeo I've been to many times before, but to all that may be affected by this, PLEASE stay safe. Just because I don't think it's gonna be as crazy as Irma, it's better to be safe than sorry. You never really know with these things.

I'll keep y'all posted if there's any aftermath, that is, if we still have power and internet. lol

My stepmom is just south of the eye path, and a friend in Sat Beach just north of it.

They (and I hope everyone else in the hurricane's path, at least the really bad part) WILL be getting the heck out of Dodge before all the roads are clogged up...right?

Every year they make it seem like it's going to be worse than the previous year, but it's always exaggerated.

Well yeah, it's one thing if it's "just " a 1 or a 2 but this could be a 4...so you don't want to fart ass around with this one right?

Depends on the intensity.

My stepmom lives inland and has hurricane shutters. She'll probably stay put.

My friend says he'll stick it out if it's Category one, but head inland to his ex's place if it's higher.

It's not their first rodeo.

Hope everyone is okay. What's the usual protocol? Do people advise evacuating?

Have been getting prepared here, but mostly at work. I work in utilities for a local city, so we always have to over-prepare. I will likely be sleeping at and holding down one of our water treatment plants to ensure water keeps flowing. Still won't really have the greatest idea until Sunday what we are truly going to be dealing with. Stay safe all you fellow Floridians!

Never been through a hurricane. Sounds scary. Stay safe all.
Too bad some people have to be rude about you living there and saying that they'd just move. Home is home.
Again, stay safe and keep us posted if you can.

Hopefully it stays weak.

Other random hurricane question- isn't it pretty late in the year to only have 4 named storms so far (with I think a fifth one shortly behind it)?

You work for Auqaduct? My father recently retired from running the distribution plant in marathon Florida.

We are in the panhandle now. Stay safe.

I remember driving back through homestead to big pine key (my home!) after Andrew. Been through them all as well. Moved to the panhandle in 2014. Not very many people took Michael seriously here (Panama City area) last year. They didn’t know. I watched that thing through the night gonfrom a 3 (which is not fun but can be rode out) to a tight, big, fast 4. I woke my family up at like 3 am and said “were out of here”. It tore up Panama City and in Marianna were I’m at now people were all “I can’t believe how bad it was” you could see in there eyes how scared they were. I don’t think a sinkhole tree survived and buildings were blown down and crushed everywhere you looked.

George was pretty rough.

Wilma flooded key west like 4 feet up on ducal street. More in some places.

Just to address the idea of moving. I understand that thought. When I lived in the direct path of many hurricanes I thought about it and my answer was “where should I move to, a place with earthquakes, blizzards, tornadoes, typhoons...I may have to deal with hurricane drama every year and it’s only serious a portion of the time but I get amazing sunshine and gorgeous weather the rest of the year 24/7”. I only moved because of financial reasons.

Shouldn't fart ass around any of them, it's always best to at least get food, water and gas. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Don't worry, I'm not offended by it even if it was directed toward me. In fact, I'd love to move simply due to the fact that I've never really been out of Florida in my entire life.

Moving isn't too easy for me as I'm not financailly able to, also there's natural disasters nearly everywhere. If not those, then probably something else far worse than what I'm used to.

Damn good question.

Global Warming? lol

Naw, I don't know.  I'm not a meteorologist, but my biggest guess is us being on a peninsula surrounded by water (which gives it strength) with the mixture of various temps from both the north and the south. It's always been a constant battle ground for nature no matter how late to the game.

Now if it happens in December, then yeah-- I'm going with global warming. lol

Yep, keeping a close eye on this one. So I don't have to rush to get stuff, I have made it a habit to get hurricane supplies every time I go to the supermarket during the season. I also have a 25KW generator to keep the house running even if there is a power outage. I live in the Gables so that is not a matter of "if" and rather "when" as there are lots of trees and the city has not really pushed to have all cables underground. We keep asking for it but they don't really do anything. It's something we really need here.

As for the question about only four named storms by now, that's not unusual. We are just entering the peak of the season so now is when you'll see more systems form. Usually the beginning and the end of the season it is slow, though these past couple of years we've had storms form before or after the official season.

Where's that armchair NA meteorologist when you need him?

I did see in an article that Atlantic hurricane season is from now through October, so I guess I got my wires crossed with tornado season.   When we got bits of hurricane Ike way back when, that was sometime in September.

We've been clobbered by Atlantic storms as late as mid-November, so the official season is more of a suggestion than a rule.
