Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests.  This week's game is sure to be a smashing good time.  That's right, it's time for some Rampage.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 life only
  • 1 player only
  • Play as whichever character you choose
  • Take your picture after your life bar runs out.  Do not allow yourself to respawn when you take your picture or your score will not count.
  • The use of the tank scoring glitch is forbidden
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Arcade


The contest ends Sunday, 4/28/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

I remember the time I actually beat this game, it probably has the worst ending of any NES game ever due to the amount of work you have to put into it.

How long is the window to take the picture?


You can pause the game after you turn back into a human.  Be careful, though, if you die by the edge of the screen or your guy will walk off and you won't be able to capture your score.

I remember renting this game as a kid and staying up until around 3:00 AM to beat it only to get a lousy "Congratulations" screen. I probably would have been more upset if I hadn't been so tired. Well, that and I was already upset from the start of the game when I realized that Ralph the wolf was left out of it.

Damn, I used to have this game. I loved rampage, but since we (my brother and I) had it for just about every system it came on, we sold the NES version since it didn't have Ralph in it. Good luck everyone with a really fun game. I'll make my contest debut next week.

So are we allowed to use the scoring glitch?

I didn't see any mention of it in the rules.

Damnit, I'm going to participate in this one! I've bought the last couple games with the intentions of playing them but just didn't have the time. Well, I loved this classic arcade back in the day, so I will go see if my local shop has this in stock. If they do, I WILL play it!

I'll be honest.  With the infinite continue feature, I've never really worried about dodging grenades and bullets while playing this game.  Yeah, I dodged bombs and tank shells, but I just couldn't be bothered to get out of the way of the soldiers' line of fire- too much effort.  I'm surprised I did as well as I did today taking into consideration all my bad habits.

I wasn't aware of a scoring glitch in Rampage.  I'm going to make it forbidden since we generally don't allow scoring glitches in the contests.

What is the scoring glitch? is that where that odd 7 came from? I wasn't doing anything intentional to glitch the game.

just for the record I did get skipped out of a day before I had brought all the buildings down, around day 55 I think. Same thing happened to me on a previous run on a different day.
