I don't seem to have too many problems with the fast pitches.

The thing that murders me is when they start cranking out hits and my fielders all turn into bozos.

I'd like to know the team with the worst offense! (but I've managed to pull as much as a 16 run lead in the first inning... and promptly get that knocked back down to a non-game-ending score in the bottom of the inning)

Detroit is not the worst team. They used to be my preferred non All-Star team when I use to play. I would think California, Houston, or SF have to be some of the bottom feeders.

All I know is that I've never played the game before and Detroit seems like a team I have figured out how to beat consistently.

I think I'm in the same situation as you. Detroit is one team that I always seem to dominate and humiliate in every single of my plays by now... And I've never played this before

I'd say the top candidates for worst offense are California,Houston, and St. Louis. If I remember right, each of those teams only has one really big bat (30+ HRs) St. Louis has good speed,so that can cause trouble. California is slower and Houston is a lot slower.

My score has been updated by a couple runs to 9.

For worst team, I'd have to go with California. As a first time player of this game they're the only team I've been able to defeat so far, so that's pretty much by default. Although, from what some of you have said, I may have to give Detroit another try. I think I only played against them once.

I'd rather play Konami Hyper Soccer, but it's a shame it was only released in Europe. I'll probably be the only one that's going to be able to play it on real hardware
At least it's not like another PAL Football (That's how we say it on the other side of the ocean, deal with it ) game *cough*kickoff*cough*itsapieceofshit*cough*

Also, Black Box Soccer would be awesome!

I feel like my per-inning scoring against the California pithcer is a bit worse (though he seems to tire badly by the 3rd inning), but they only had one guy that was getting hits against me.  Everybody else was either an easy strike-out or so weak it was easy to get him out on first.

This is now my favorite baseball game on the NES. I'll have to track down a copy of this game sometime. That and the sequels too.

RBI 2 is probably my favorite, there are more teams, you can control the fielders better with diving and jumping, and graphics are a little better.

So what is the guess at the threshold to place rather than a participation point?

Is it going to be at least a mercy-rule? (sort of like Paperboy and Mable Madness where even people who beat the game didn't rank?)

I'm going to venture to say depending on participants, probably double digits. If there are less entries, then probably high single digits.

Yeah, I'm a newbie and I'm up to a 15 run win, so anything is possible

That took me forever to do. After playing against St. Louis for most of the tries to get this run,I can say that they are definitely one of the worst teams.

Not that it's some big secret, but ideally you want to take the game into the 3rd or 4th inning. The computer will not pull the pitcher until the start of the 5th inning no matter how dead armed he is. What you want to try to do is bat around at least the first or second inning. I would say both, but that'll put you up roughly 16-18 runs,so you'll have to intentionally give up several to get under a ten run lead. But definitely try to bat around one inning and get a few runs (3-5) in the other one or two innings. Or at the very least get his pitch count up. Anyway, you want to be up 9 runs in the 3rd or 4th inning and the pitcher should be tired and that's when you pound him mercilessly since his pitches are super slow and have little to no movement on them. Another thing the pitcher will tend to do when he's tired is throw more balls and stray pitches. Use this to your advantage. If he throws a deep inside pitch, move towards it,let it hit you,and take your free base.

That stat line is sick. Bravo! I find it hard to believe that anyone else is going to touch your score.

We'll see. There are some amazing players in these contests, including you. I couldn't touch your Yoshi's Cookie score.

It's true there is a chance that someone could swoop in with a better score because there are truly great players here.  Just based on my experience I don't think there is enough physical time left for me to put up that kind of score or anything close.

I can't remember where I read this so I'm not sure it is even true, but I read the WR is +36, so +30 really isn't that far off.  So, no, I still don't see anyone doing better.

damm Guts nice score! I've got a new score but I'm going to see if I can improve upon it. Had a nice 2 out rally with runners on 1st and 2nd and it ended with Pedro Guerrero flying out to left field with some warning track power (thought it was going to hit the wall but didn't).

Even if someone posts a better score I'm cool with it. I admire great scores. The score that I posted was literally my last one of the night/morning. I had a game where I was up 27-6 and had a great run going but my team hit into few easy outs. Was bummed but I thought just one more. Was up 14-5 going into the 3rd inning when I started unloading on a fading John Tudor. Got to 29-5 when I hit into my 2nd out. Was hoping to at least get one more run with aspirations of getting a 30 run lead,so I was sweating out it a bit.

I know a few people have said Detroit is error prone, but St Louis is bad too. 5 errors this game and in my 27-6 run they had 6 in 4 innings. Another knock against St Louis is other than Jack Clark, they have no power so you rarely have to worry about giving up the long ball as most batters have single digit home run totals. The main thing they have going for them is speed on the base paths.

Couldn't get anything going this week, this is an early score I took just in case and for some reason I wasn't able to get back up to par, oh well.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

updated my score...not anywhere close to guts but alittle bit better. I had a good run going this morning only to be ended with a simple pop up by Mike Schmidt again.
