That score is insane!

I had 52k yesterday, and managed to reach to last run where the ground is series of disappearing blocks.
That is definitely my all-time high, since before yesterday I've never even cleared the jump on the last level.

This has inspired me, though, to try and finally beat this game!

If I could find a decent way trough the hammers on arials I know I could easily beat the game and get into the 75000ish score range if not higher. I just routinely die 5+ times and waste 20 or so seconds (many times much more) getting through those damn hammers. Damn things made me rage quit last night.

I find the hammers are a combination of luck and setting up along an edge and just blasting through at full speed...  no big deal if you overrun the far side since you'll respawn on the "safe" side of the hammers.

Somebody needs to PM miss clawfull and mog ,they had over 170 K last time.

Yeah, they are absolute beasts at this game.

I can't really understand how that kind of score is even possible.
Is there a huge bonus for clearing the game?

Because I don't think I would have had much more than 60k, if I'd negotiated the final run for the win last night.

I think Miss Clawful was able to devote a HUGE amount of time to playing the game that week, and since she was skilled enough to consistently beat the game, she finally had a really lucky run with a zillion wands that added up to a ridiculous amount of bonus time.

Yup, big time bonuses. +20k just for finishing. +1,000 points per second left. The biggest killer is it's -1,000 for every death. If you can no death it you are golden.

Last night was my first time playing the NES version of this game, which I picked up specifically for this week's competition. Prior to last night I had only played the Commodore 64 version. Luckily the games are pretty much the same. I managed to get to the 4th maze, which I had only beaten a couple times as a kid. Not bad for not touching the game for 20 years. Gonna get some more practice in before posting a score.

So the -1000 per death happens at the end of the game?

Is it possible to finish the game and have that penalty give you a lower score than if you hadn't finished the game?

I'm not sure you could finish the game and have that high of a penalty. The 20k bonus gives you 20 deaths just to break even (not counting the end level bonuses). If you died that often, I would think it would be impossible to finish as you would almost certainly run out of time.

20 deaths eats up 20 seconds, maybe, right?

I had 52k pts when I reached the final leg of the last level, and thought I was doing OK.
Time bonus aside, that only jumps me up to 72k for beating the game. 

So, the question is did they have 100 sceconds left-over at the end?
That just sounds impossible.

The most seconds you can have left after the last stage is 78.

Yeah, I guess they were just burning up the earlier stages as well for extra timer-related points.

Maybe closer to 30, depending on which animations you get (sweeping broom would be longer than a second).

Regardless, 52k is fairly solid for where you were (time left, aside). You are forgetting all of the other bonuses, though. You get 6k for going through the gate and a x100 multipler for your leftover time. That's a good swing if you had a really good run, overall.

Then you get 20k for finishing, x1000 mutipler for you leftover time, -1000 for each death.

This is all not factoring in any lucky wands you may have gotten.

I've gotten 130-140k numerous times before. It takes a nice solid run, but it is doable.

I'm sure I still got a ways to go to even think about a top 10, but an extra 19K is still an extra 19K. A couple of these scores that have been posted so far are downright insane! Great going to all so far.

Got a 158,590 tonight and updated my post. I actually got a wand while on the green conveyer belt which was funny, since it caused me to die.

I actually got this last night,but just got around to posting it. Probably won't do much better than this. It's not a bad game,I've just never really liked it at all. It's not my type of game. The whole "mess up too many times and you can't complete the game" as well as the loose controls just ruin it for me. I'll keep trying,but this game is just not for me.
