From my 15 minute run this evening it feels like I'm exploring more than anything else. I felt like I had an end point to get to but didn't know what it was or how to get there. Only got to try out one other lizard, one that bounces when you hold B. Will have to give this more of a go tomorrow.

I found both the bouny lizard and the fire breather. He did mention that the demo is only about half finished of course. Im just frustrated that the boss is or seems to be unbeatable just yet. I spent more time on it than I care to share.

Hey, it's okay if you don't like it, PolarBear. I am not expecting it to be a game for everyone. I am making a kind of game that I want to play, and I hope some of you would like the same thing.

I don't know if naming my influences would help you enjoy it, but here's a quick list of games that have directly inspired Lizard in some way: Prince of Persia, Bubble Bobble, Solstice, Metroid, Fez, VVVVVV, Gimmick!, Battletoads, L'abbeye des Morts

Of those, maybe Solstice is the closest in gameplay? I'm not sure. I think people would have differing opinions on it, and I like to hear other interpretations, so I am hesitant to give an authorial statement of intent.
Solstice? One of my favorite games, but I can't say the two are all that close. With Solstice, you don't really gain any new skills aside from the boots which are a requirement as far as I can tell. And you have all four of the potions at the very beginning. I could go on forever on the topic of Solstice.

If I may make my own speulations, I would say it is very much like Kirby. New skills may be aqcuired only at partcicular locations in the game (from enemies which are not simply randomly generated) and once you get a new skill, it removes the last.

Kirby is very linear though, that's one key difference. I can definitely sympathize with people who find non-linear games confusing. I used to feel the same way, but nowadays I enjoy them.

I find the game to be highly enjoyable. It has the non-linearity of Zelda, but the feel of a Legacy of the Wizard or even Ducktales. Atmosphere-wise I would guess it feels whimsical along the lines of Little Nemo. The frequency of death is high, without feeling sadistic. It kind of forces you to choose between exploring the current area or trying a different one since the first time through you kind of have to explore and find out which might be a suitable path (kind of like A Boy and His Blob). There are a ton more parallels, but in the end the game as a whole just feels like Lizard, which is a good thing . Very unique, without re-inventing the wheel. I also really enjoy how the player can move about on the opening screens, and I was pleasantly surprised when I found my way back to the password screen during the game proper. Just my two cents.

Put some sort of map system to the game, or if it's too much work, draw and print it and include it to CIB version. Do that and i'm totally in!

The demo is pretty good. How many endings does it have? I found 3 and I think I've been everywhere.

There's only 3 that you can reach in the demo without cheating.

I like this idea.  Would definitely help a lot and make the game more appealing in my opinion.

If you want a map for the demo,I posted one in my second Kickstarter update: https://www.kickstarter.com/proje...

An in-game map doesn't fit my goals for this game, but I would like to include a map of the world layout in the printed manual. I would want to do it in such a way that the details and secrets aren't revealed, but it should still give you a good idea of where you can go in the game.

There are 2 bosses, and I've beat them both

It's Homebrews like this that inspires me to be an NES Programmer. (Still trying to learn that.) Even though it's just a demo, This is the best NES Homebrew I've seen and played since Thefox's Streemerz. I can't wait to see how the Kickstarter and the Steam Greenlight Project turn out.
Out of curiosity, How long did the demo took on development until the release?

I backed. First for the good disguise and the actor studio. Then for the game which looks pretty promising.

Backed and voted for greenlight on Steam. I'll join the others in stating this is the first thing I've ever backed on Kickstarter.

I played the demo and I'm hooked. I really want to see the final release!

Quick question, though! I realize the higher pledges include a 'digital download', but I am curious if you'd be able to supply a Steam key should it be greenlit on Steam? (I'll fully admit, I don't know how Steam works when it comes to these things and if you would have the ability to provide keys to your game in such a manner, but I figured I'd ask!)

In any case, good luck and I sincerely hope you meet your goal!

If it is feasible, I would like to give a steam key to every digital download backer. I'd also like to implement achievements. I need Lizard to be greenlit first, though! That's the tricky part.

Famicuber: I have been working on Lizard for more than a year, but it was a slow burn for a long time. It's really hard to account for all the time spent, but I think if I had to start over from scratch I could get to where I am now with 3 or 4 months of full time work.
