Oh man, I used to play this game a lot when I was young. It's been a while now. I'll give it a shot to cool down from that Battletoads nerves racking.

That wasn't much, but this was given with a lot of love

I'll probably send you another package before the 1st of January to help you out.

I might try this one out. It has to be played on an actual system, correct? Any specific rules?

emulators can be used.

no one has posted any rules yet, but we're going to need them. probably going to be one death. maybe some others, but i don't know this game well enough to say for sure.

Can emulators really be used if there's save states that can be abused? Or is this the honor code? I would think that playing on a system would be the safest bet.

It is generally an honour system. Usually when we have the one death rule, it is an honour system anyway.

Edit: This is my understanding at least

I've played this game a little bit today & I think we should definitely implement the 1 life rule. Is everyone else in agreement with this?

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

the whole contest is an honor system. even without emulators, it would be pretty easy to cheat in other ways as well. i think anyone cheating in a little contest like this would be very very sad though.

One death rule sounds good for this, plus when you lose all your lives, there is no way of capturing the score, you have like 1 second at least.

Sweet. I've been waiting for a game like this to get in on this. Me and my friend just beat this one. I think the game loops over once you beat it but I could be wrong. I guess with one life that's pretty tough anyway.

Okay, getting this on a roll with first scores.

Game 1: 1st death score 100000 points exactly. Okay, died too early, but just warming up.
Photobucket

Game 2: 1st death score 254200. Oops, backed up against the train as it was exploding.
Photobucket

Game 3: 1st death score 304110. Dammit, I should've realized this, the score is barely visible on that bridge background, but it can be seen if you strain your eyes hard enough.
Photobucket

Went on to finish the game, boy that tank took forever to beat. Didn't remember it taking that many hits. I had 3 deaths.
1st death stage 5 to a spread cannon bridge guardian
2nd death stage 5 to turret gun while trying to avoid bomber plane
3rd death stage 6 to a helicopter near rescue point
Photobucket

Well done! Your mission is accomplished.
Photobucket

Beautiful sunset ending.

Here's how I did earlier today when I gave this a try.  I got all the way to the final stage with one life and then got blown up by a helicopter that appeared suddenly & flew away afterward.

0

I decided to keep going after losing my first life just to see how I would do.  Well, I ended up beating Jackal for the first time.  I had been to the last boss one other time several years ago & got killed pretty quickly.  This time, I found a safe spot at the bottom of the screen & finished him off.  I died a total of 5 times in the final stage, mostly when trying to destroy the lasers on the enemy base just before you fight the tank.

0

I decided to keep going after this to see how many points I could get before I got a game over & I made it all the way back to the last stage before being destroyed by a helicopter again.  Here's the final score.

Played it for the first time last night. I was a little worried that it wouldn't work, the contacts were slightly corroded and it took about 15mins to clean it. Everything seems fine though

Got the first and second stage down, but the boss at the end of 2 got me. Once I get a little better, I should be able to get pretty far in this one.

I had never played this game until last night also, and was pleasantly surprised. I tend to stay away from games with vehicles for some reason, so i never really gave this one a chance. The control is nice and it has a nice speed to it since you control the scrolling. This game is quite fun, Im gonna have to sit down and beat it, perhaps tonight. I was dicking around thinking I had unlimited continues, then I got a game over

Thanks!  I was surprised I did as well as I did.  I played it several times yesterday & kept losing a life at the stage 1 boss, so I would just play from there to get a feel for the game again because it had been a while since I had last played it.  I was able to memorize where a lot of enemies were & that made it real easy for me.  I also took it real slow & didn't take any risks.

I take is slow through the game too, for me its about a 45 minute game to finish it. But still, always gotta be something that gets me, stupid mistakes.

Game 4: 1st death score 314710 (I think). Ugh, I need to start dying somewhere else, score blends in so well with that bridge, better yet I need to stop dying altogether.
Photobucket

Only had a chance to play 1 game today, ended up with the same amount of deaths as my last game, 3 deaths, score was higher though.
1st death score 314710 (stage 5 by bridge gun)
2nd death (stage 6 by helicopter near rescue chopper)
3rd death (stage 6 by helicopter at final boss)
beat it with 3 deaths / no continues used, score 459410

There is a bridge all the way to the left (think this is the same spot anyway) that i take. Try that one next time.
