1. Give this show a chance

This isn't just some dumb show for girls. For decades, I always considered My Little Pony to be the dumbest thing ever spawned. Then, I watched the newer show, and I still dismiss anything before this show, but it has its charm. People of NintendoAge, please, please, watch a few episodes, just to understand what I'm saying. If you like it, good. If you don't, that's fine, too.

2. The creator, writers, et cetera

Lauren Faust is the creator of this newest series. She has worked on shows like The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, both of which are shows that, despite their childish premise(s), they ended up garnering fans both in and outside of the intended audience. She actually listens to fans. DeviantArt, 4chan, whatever, she'll pick up on fans' ideas and incorporate them into the show. Fans have come up with all kinds of crazy ideas regarding MLP:FiM, and she actually went along with them. 

3. Not just for little girls... (sorta)

What little girl is going to know about Sondheim? Two songs from the show have been done as homage to Sondheim, particularly Sunday in the Park With George and Into the Woods. There's also a real billboard in LA of the six main (mane?) characters done in the style of the movie poster for Bridesmaids, an R-rated movie. There's also references to other things, such as Benny Hill, Lord of the Rings, etc. Plus, this show actually puts character development and depth into the characters. In earlier MLP series, they were just flat Mary Sues who had tea parties and played around. Here, they actually have personality, special talents, and act more realistically.

4. It's okay to like this show.

Besides the fact that it's a My Little Pony show, there's nothing wrong with liking this show. It's a kid's show, yes, but being young at heart has never been a bad thing. Look back at shows you were fond of when you were a kid, and notice that they're a whole lot enjoyable due to jokes that kids wouldn't really understand (I'm looking at YOU, Animaniacs!). 

5. The show's readily available on the internet.

A few users on YouTube have uploaded the entire series. So, if you have some down time, come join the herd, if you please.

I've been meaning to get this off my chest for the longest time. I still wouldn't tell my mom or my dad that I'm a brony (bro + pony, thus, screenname), but I'm proud to admit that I like this show, even though I am a grown man. I'm not forcing anyone here to watch this show or become a brony, but if we can all give this show a chance, then that would be great.
