Just received this badass yellow label Metroid NES in mint condition. What makes this unique is the box has a "Nintendo Promotional Offer: Not for Resale" sticker on it. The guy that owned it bought it direct from Nintendo almost 20 years ago and looks as if it was never played! Now I have another rare Metroid along with my upside-down label Super Metroid!

I'm not GammaRay or Erik, but I can say this...SMB/DH without a seal is actually quite common indeed (probably relative rarity of 2 or 3 at best).  Similarly, there's also a SMB 2 no-seal variant, which, while scarcer than the SMB/DH no-seal variant, is still nowhere near rare.  A pic of the SMB 2...

Heh, I noticed a while back that I have one of the no-seal SMB 2's CIB.  I didn't think it was anything super special, but I kept it and it's oval-seal counterpart nonetheless.

What Matt said.  Here's one for sale on Ebay.   **Just did a search for SMB 2 no seal on Ebay, and 5 were listed on the first page alone.

Nice find!  It's most likely a factory mismatch.  Ultra was using old 5-screw stock after the 3-screw switch.

Awesome!  I'll add it to the list, and I'll add the pic once you take it.  Nice find!

I just dug out a VERY RARE Ren and Stimpy: Buckeroos for SNES with a "Nintendo Promotional Offer" tag on it. I know this cart is rare, but this one's ridiculous!

Thread updated. Phins found a 5-screw Star Force, and I have acquired a 5-Screw Mega Man (many, many thanks to GammaRay!).

I do not know if any of these are rare. I am personally not big in variants. But I have a few 5 screws games.

Spy Hunter
Winter Games
Legend of Zelda gold cart

I have lots of copies of LoZ, and they're all 3 screws except for one..

Zelda's probably the hardest of those three to find.  Unfortunately, none of them are rare.  Keep searching when you're out game hunting.  You'll find some HTF ones eventually.

Hi guys, first post here. I just signed up so I could join in on this thread.

First of all, all the games I have are PAL (being in Australia and all)
I have a few carts that are listed on the 3-screw/5-screw chart, though I'm unsure if them being PAL will make them more or less rare.

Such as:

Donkey Kong Jr. 3 screw
Donkwy Kong 3 screw
Balloon Fight 5 screw
Ice climber 3 screw
Popeye 3 screw

I don't know if this thread is only about game carts but I've a pretty weird Micro VS. System with two controller ones. I suppose someone somewhere has one with two controller twos.

While we're not really tracking systems, that is pretty weird.

As far as 5 screw and 3 screw I haven't picked anything up recently, but I did pick up a yellow text end label for super pitfall. Does anyone else have one of those? I keep trying to tell myself it is a sun fade, but the more I look at I think maybe the printer ran out of red ink and instead of orange text it came out yellow.
Oh, and I don't know if anyone cares about the racer mate carts, but I think I found a version number that hasn't been reported to exist yet and I posted a little on it but no one has said anything?

-------------------------

Know any NES cartridge variants that I don't have on this list?
http://www.nintendoage.com/index....
Let me know if you have confirmed any that I need to add! Thanks!

Sorry for thge Bump, but here are the pictures of all my Super Pitfall variants.

I'd really love someone's expert opinion on if they think this is legit.

My thought is this looks like the printer just may have run out of red or had an error that caused the top of the sticker label to print in only yellow and blue. And since red was needed to make orange text, it just printed yellow?

Does anyone else's copy have a yellow end label? I want to say I have seen another before. Thanks,

-Kirk

EDIT: Nevermind, was looking at the wrong one ;P

-------------------------

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."
