So if I have the original cart, do I just need new chip? I'm trying to figure out if I can just pop in a new chip!

So here's my question,

I have quite a few original Super Famicom Games:
(Tales of Phantasia, Live A Live, Gunman's Proof, Front Mission: Gun Hazzard, Dark Half, etc...)

So since I already have these games, can I simply have someone take a translated Rom, and copy that on a new Chip, then desolder the current chip, and put in this new "translated" chip, and the game would work??

I am curious, because this would be pretty slick, instead of ordering reproductions for each of these, could I simply put in a new chip?

any info you guys have would be great!

Thanks,
Zwario

yep, that's about it.. ToP is a bit tricky because there's not an eprom or flash that is readily available that has the right lead spacing. they would be reproductions at that point though.. they'd just have the original cartridge housing.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

Cool, ok, so who would you recommend for me to order a few of these Programmed Chips from?  Know anyone who does good / fast work on these?

Probably order like 5 of them, (would I send them my money and the ROM i'd like on the chip?)

Thanks again for your advice!

Yeah, man down, can't help. My eprom programmer is busted and at the moment I'm unsure if my next one will work or not. Tired of dealing with crappy chinese vendors and am considering quitting.

I know there are a few Flash memories that are 64Mbit and have the same pin out (till A21) but we would have to do a new tsop adapter board.

Actually, you don't need to buy an expensive programmer. BuyICnow offers a programming service. Just buy the "P00002503" chips and have them program them for you:
http://www.buyicnow.com/fincat.ph...

That chip works with most games, but not all (like Star Ocean, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario RPG, etc.)
