I am going back and truly reading the classics that we were required to read in middle/high school. Currently on the Iliad and Odyssey. Just finished up the Jules Verne books.
Best Jules Verne novel = Michael Strogoff. Trust me

I will have to add it to the list. I had just read through Around the World, 20,000 Leagues, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I haven’t read Michael Strogoff, though I have read a good amount of Verne’s novels. I thought the end of Journey to the Center of the Earth was pretty disappointing. My favorite of the works I’ve read is The Mysterious Island.

I’m currently listening to The Prestige on audiobook. I’m really enjoying it.

I'm currently reading one of the Chinese classic novels (sometimes called the Four Chinese Classics): The Dream of the Red Chamber/The Story of the Stone by Cao Xueqin. I'm really enjoying it, though I can honestly say that I'm not entirely sure why.

Additionally, I'm listening to Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini, and it is fantastic. I highly recommend it!

I tried Journey to the West a few years ago, and then gave up on the Chinese Classics for a bit; so daunting! I need to return to them, though I failed to buy The Dream of Red Mansions back then. I've been meaning to give Sabatini a read as well.

The Goblet of Fire was my least favorite, we may be book opposites  .

Impressive sets! I have that same Three Kingdoms set, but my Journey to the West and Red Chamber are totally different. They are daunting, though. My Red Chamber is in five volumes of over 500 pages each!

I’ve convinced my wife to read Scaramouche, and she’s loving it. She convinced her parents to read it. It’s extraordinarily witty and engaging.

Hmm... I don’t know what my least favorite is, but I do know my least favorite iteration of Harry is in The Order of the Phoenix.

I am a bit envious of those of you that still enjoy reading. College completely ruined any enjoyment I had reading books; I think I can count on one hand how many I've read in the last 20 years.

That’s a huge bummer. May I suggest audiobooks to get you back in? I listen mostly on my commute to work (15-20 minutes, usually). It’s great because you’re not doing much anyway. You can just listen as you drive.

Nah, that's about the only time I listen to music.

Fair enough. Any chance you could try to read a chapter before bed? If it's interesting enough and in small doses, it wouldn't be too bad.

I've had a copy of Journey to the Center of the Earth since elementary school and have never been able to get through it. I've tried several times over the years, but it drags to the point where it sits on the shelf and I realize that I haven't read in months. Might have to make The Mysterious Island next on the list.

You’re not missing much with the ending. Felt like a total cop out to me, though I enjoyed most of it up to that point, especially once the exploration started. The Mysterious Island kept me hooked pretty much throughout, though. Always a new puzzle to figure out.

I just recently finished reading "Tribe" by Sebastian Junger. It was a pretty good book, though he reiterates the same point several times. Regardless, it does a good job of putting into perspective the importance of being part of a community, and the positive effects it can have on the human mind. It's not a very long book, and I'm sure can be found cheap enough on Amazon. If you're someone who feels shut off from the world around you, I'd recommend reading it.

I just finished The Last Days of the Romanovs by Helen Rappaport less than an hour ago. I think I'm gonna start on East of Eden by John Steinbeck tonight.

I've currently read 18 books this year. 62 in 2018. 54 in 2017. That's when I started using Goodreads to keep up with my books.

I read a ton. Majority history and other nonfiction, but I do enjoy a good novel now and then.

Just read Masters of Doom. I felt very sad at the end - the same feeling I had when I finished Console Wars. Nostalgia I assume, which is funny because I watch millions of movies and shows from the era, and play games, or read articles, without that happening. I guess a book gets you immersed long enough to really recall the era.

The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. Think high fantasy ala Lord of the Rings but less cumbersome to read. Also it's set in a post apocalyptic version of Earth.

Finished the Grassland Trilogy by David Ward. His Between Two Ends was a great, surprise read (random library discard when I was subbing). The Grassland books were kind of middle of the road, but it did feel nice to knock some off the list.

In the last week I finished Dolores Claiborne (great), Masters of Doom (greater), and Snow Crash (greatest)

Now I'm finally starting Game of Thrones.  I've had all five trades for years.
