This is one of my childhood favorites. Haven't played this in ages. I'll be traveling this week, but I'm going to set up the NES in the hotel so hopefully I'll have time to play it.

This game's controls are horrible...I never could figure out how to get the cannon to fire straight ahead again...
O'well, you won't catch me upping my score.

@ Benihana: The controls are quite easy in this game, though a bit clunky. B fires your main guns, and they always face the direction you're in. A fires the turret, and holding down B will make the turret rotate in the direction you're facing in.

Tip for everyone: When you get to a boss, equip all your bullets in the select screen, and fire away. The first boss should die within a second.

Edit:  Got a higher score.  85,400.  2nd place is still second place, distant or close.  >:/

How did you manage that? The game becomes rather hard after you beat the first boss.

Also, Bimmy, you might wanna check my score. It was 89,900, but you read the first line of my post. I forgot to change that.

^Depends which way you go. There's a fork in the road after the first boss. I recommend going right. Also, I pretty much inch my way through and avoid using powerups as much as possible until bosses.

I go the right way as well, but there are so many gun men who are out of range, and the tanks that scoot across the screen and retreat, not to mention the bridge is probably the place where I will lost close to 75% of my life thanks to tanks coming from the front and back, foot soldiers shooting and throwing grenades from behind walls, etc... I made it as far as hearing the "Boss Rumbling", but the tanks that pop out then leave from the sides done me in.

 

New score, actually made it past the halfway point on the map. Really have a hard time taking pics of this game, score is so small and my laptop monitor reflects too much, too shiny.

Edit:  Updated my score a little bit.  Turns out running into the tanks isn't so bad, given you have enough HP.  That second cannon train in the narrow passageway in the town surprised me and done me in.  :/

EDIT: This might be my last attempt. I doubt I'm going to have any time tomorrow.

What an awesome game. It was so fun to play it after all this time. I'm going to get myself a password and continue later.
