Hello everyone and welcome to the 2016 NintendoAge Weekly Contests!  After months of planning and playtesting, we are finally ready to get things underway this year!  If you haven’t read the leaderboard thread yet, you may want to take a look at it to see the changes we have made for 2016.  The most notable changes are one year-long leaderboard, a new leaderboard point system that helps reward participants who don’t make the top 8 with three participation points as opposed to one, and a few more breaks throughout the year to keep everyone fresh!  You can see all the changes here:

But enough of that stuff, let’s get to the first game of the year!  An NES classic, this is a game that everyone should be familiar with.  We are starting off the year with none other than Super Mario Bros.  Here are the rules (please read them carefully):
 
 

• 1 player only
• 1 life only
• 1 playthrough only.  Once you beat Bowser and save the Princess, you must stop and take a picture of your score.
• No emulators allowed
• Any turtle hopping techniques are allowed (for points)
• Highest score wins
• Participation: 100,000
• GENRE: Action/Platformer

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 2/21/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire screen MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted. Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Also, the use of point glitches to intentionally increase (or in the case of a low score contest, decrease) your score are frowned upon and not allowed in the contests.  If a point glitch is discovered that can create an unfair advantage, the rules for the game will be altered to ban the glitch.  Anyone suspected of using point glitches will have their score disqualified. Since it's a 1 life contest, it seemed like an interesting change of pace. I wouldn't be surprised to see some million point scores by the end of the week.

Lol. Thanks. I won't be challenging for the top spot this week unless hardly anyone posts. I love this game but have never gotten used to the floaty controls.

BTW.. I hate springboards.. and I've been playing too much mario maker so now the physics feel strange.

Updated my score. Was really hoping I could have made it to at least level 8. I was really close.

And this was a non-turtle tipped score. I just couldn't pull it off and said screw it.
