As a hardcore MM fan I agree that 2 is overrated but at the same time I still feel it's a damn good game. The music is some of the best the NES has to offer and despite it's easy difficulty it set the standard for future MM games.

I'd say 3 is a close second as it improves on 2 despite the game being rushed. There are several parts in the game where you can literally get stuck and have to reset. Or use the 2nd controller trick.

For third it's a toss up between 5 and 6. To me 5 feels like MM3 part 2, I don't know why but it just does. Maybe it's the similarity with Protoman, the music, and password system. Meanwhile I feel like MM6 has an amazing soundtrack, just as good as 2.

I can't stand the way they changed it. I've talked about it in the Switch thread a bit, but I don't know. It feels different from the NES games. Others have talked about how jumps, weight, and momentum changed along with how the sprite itself has changed with where you fall off ledges and jumping distances, etc... I can't claim that those are factors for me but I just don't dig the 16 bit Mega Man sprite style and the game just feels off. I used to hate 5 and 6. Playing through 7 again recently actually made me appreciate and love those games. So I guess some good came of 7 for me?

I played them all in order last year. I like them all, except 6 that to me is a "phoned in" game.

Still need to get around to playing 7 and 8, but in general no game has come close to 2 for me.

9 Best Weapon Selection, Endless Mode, Solid Level Design,
3 Most well rounded of the NES games IMO.
1 Only the Yellow Devil brings the game down for me. I like the High Score counter.
5 Easy, but interesting level designs. Charge Shot feels GOOD.
7 Tight once you get used the large sprite, but man are those cutscenes slow.
2 Has some design flaws that I think are overlooked. Ex. Wily Stages, Game Overs, etc.
8 Better than I remember, buster + special weapons is a welcome change.
6 Rush Adapters are fun, but feel overused.
4 Never been able to get into heavily due to the level design. Charge Shot mechanic still needed tweeking.
10 Level design & weapons frustrate me to no end. Good game, just nothing I like about it in particular.

I tend to flip flop on 4, 6, & 7 depending on my mood. Bass is somewhere in the bottom half due to the King 2 stage.
