I don't own any Apple products but I realize his contributions to the computing industry. Sad to see him go at such a young age though, his health quickly declined

I was just reading up a bit on him and read this. Can you imagine the person you hired trying to get you fired!

"As Apple expanded, Mr. Jobs decided to bring in a more experienced manager to lead the company. He recruited John Sculley from Pepsi Co. to be Apple CEO in 1983, famously overcoming Mr. Sculley's initial reluctance by asking the executive if he just wanted to sell "sugar water to kids" or help change the world.

After Apple fell into a subsequent slump, a leadership struggle led its board's decision to back Mr. Sculley and fire Mr. Jobs two years later at the age of 30. "What can I say – I hired the wrong guy," Mr. Jobs brooded in the same PBS documentary. "He destroyed everything I had spent ten years working for.""

he helped shape the personal computing world as we know it. Millions of people will read about his death on devices he helped create. Rest in Peace Steve.

Same here. The Apple II was the first computer I used. Sad day indeed. RIP Mr. Jobs.

Check out the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley". It's a good flick that shows how Steve Jobs and Bill Gates started their respective companies and also offers a good look at their early personal lives.

A lot less than it would have if he'd died while he was still running the company...

Wow, just crazy. I'm not even huge into apple products but there is no doubt he was truly innovative in many aspects. I knew he had cancer but I didn't think this would have happen so suddenly.

Is it bad that this was the very first thing to come to my mind as well?  AAPL pulls enough weight that a down day for APPL would be a down day for the entire market most likely.

RIP.  I certainly didn't see this one coming.

If Magic Johnson died tomorrow, I'd still be shocked... and he's lived with AIDS for as long as I can remember.

Wow, that sucks. While I don't agree with the companies way of doing things...well, now I kinda do, but still...this really sucks. While I don't believe he created everything perfect from day 1, he sure did have the idea and balls to make the first smartphone and a couple other devices. This sucks. Insane...
