It would be interesting if you do find differences, if this is close to the early version Robin played for the Disney championship he wrote about.

Cart was purchased off of DO from member NaturalChemical.  The sale (like every other prototype sale on the planet) came with plenty of controversy and drama.  Needless to say that I removed myself from the discussion (for once) and I'm very pleased with my purchase.  NaturalChemical was a gentleman throughout the process, and I look forward to doing business with him again in the future.

The game appears to be the same as the released version, although I only played through part of the first level.  This game marks my sixth Capcom prototypes, so that's a nice touch in it's own right.

the one i wrote about had a pogo stick in the bonus rounds instead of a saucer skateboard thing. I would be ecstatic if you had the one used early in the competition.

I'm sure he meant DP and just hit the neighboring key. You're not going to find protos (or that level of drama) anywhere else

I know a Euro prototype collector that has a TS prototype that he described as "Very different" from the retail version.  I wonder if that's like the one you played.  He also told me that I have a better chance of squeezing blood from a stone than ever getting my hands on any of his prototypes.

Today's Prototype: Swamp Thing (Unreleased Genesis game).

Yes, that dingy cart is the unreleased Swamp Thing game for the Sega Genesis.  I haven't tested the game yet as my Genny is not hooked up here.  I will be giving it a play later tonight for sure though.

Here's some gameplay footage from the seller.  It's not great quality, but it gives you an idea of what we're working with here:

You play as Swamp Thing (of course), and you have the ability to transform into everything from a log, to a leaf.  Yes, that's right: A log and a leaf!  I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during the creative process.  Ah, NUVISION, how I love thee.  I'm praying there's more equally ridiculous transformations found later in the game.

This seller had two other prototypes for sale.  One was a CES version of Bimini Run (it mentioned something about it being a demo on the title screen) and the other was a copy of the unreleased game Bean Ball Benny.  BBB was extremely early and incomplete which is why I opted to focus my fortunes exclusively on Swamp Thing.  I wonder why I would want to purchase an unreleased Genny title that was complete. . . . . . .

Nice man!! I saw this auction, and wondered if you had made a bid. Glad to see it go into good hands!

What a great proto, very rewarding. I wonder if this was developed in tandem for SNES. Really a redemption from the NES version which is just terrible. Seriously that one reminds me of a Color Dreams game

Thanks guys!

Dream manged to score Bean Ball Benny too, so that prototype will be preserved as well.  All good things!

Now to whip up some box art!  It's too bad that the label is so worn.  I would have loved to replicate what the original designers had in mind.  I'm sure I can at least come pretty close.  I know that BBB had some flyers and press around it, but I can't find anything similar for ST.  It would be nice to see some design art.

I contacted the original owner as soon as he posted over on DP, and we were extremely close to working out a deal.  He was super busy at the time though, and communication just fell apart.  As soon as these his eBay I set a snipe on ST.  I don't have a lot of "fun" money at the moment, and the end price was dangerously close to my max bid.  I was SO pumped when I found out we won.  The premise is just so ridiculous to the point that I had to own it.

Whip up some box art? You plan to release this! That would be killer man

Have any Genny Proto's been released? I thought not due to the difficulty involved.

Evan (badinsults) mentioned over on DP that there was an SNES version planned as well, so your assumption is likely correct.

The NES version was horrific, but I don't know how much better this version will be.  I came across a hysterical story where a game reviewer played Swamp Thing with a PR rep.  I'll try and dig it up.

I think this game will be more enjoyable/memorable for how strange it is as opposed to how good it is.  I guess you folks can judge for yourselves.

I really wanted to wait until we hit the 100 NES prototype mark, but I might have to snap off a picture at the end of the summer.  I'm just not looking forward to putting all the shit back on the shelf when I'm done lol!

I'm nearly positive it's in the high 80s for unique titles, but I haven't counted recently.  If you include duplicates I would think it's over 90.  I think with all platforms I might be at 100.  Hmmmm. . . Maybe that would warrant a photo.
