I managed to pull a 512x multiplier on my 1-1 opener earlier out of sheer dumb luck... Made the opening move worth 15k by itself!

(doesn't make the big total scoring any easier, though )

Aren't bumps used to let the mods know that your score has been updated? I don't know, that was my understanding. I could be wrong though cuz ima NOOOOB!!!

I think only that Fleaman dude didn't knew what you meant. People usually say 'score updated' but it was easy to deduct this is what you meant.

Haven't really been playing for combos, mainly for Yoshi cookies. Guess I need to change my strategy. And when you pulled off that combo did it clear the board?

No. It knocked it down to 2 cookies and I built I back up to milk for another 10k.

I will ill say my major observation from that run, though, was that it really didn't get fast based on score alone.

it definitely gets fast based on either cookies or lines cleared.
if you can restrict play to big combos I think you can probably keep it slower for the same score.

Were your combos mostly vertical, horizontal,or an even mix of both?

That is interesting.  I can't try that out now though.  So far tonight this game got me to break out into a sweat twice.  Is that normal?

Score updated.  Significant improvement for me, but no where near elite status for the week.

If you have a score update, you can simply post that you have updated your score.  The word "bump" is generally used on NA to bump a thread up in a section if there have been no replies in it for a day or two and someone wants it to get noticed.  Since all the contest threads have a "sticky" attached to them to keep them at the top of the Gamer's Gauntlet section for a whole week, there's no reason to bump the threads.

I think I'm done this week. I got farther than I ever have (5-9) and yet fell about 1,000 points shy of my current high. The game penalizes you for point racking by speeding up the game which in my opinion is inexcusable and idiotic. It's called low speed, not low unless you score a bunch of points. Absolutely stupid. If not for this obscenely moronic game mechanic,I would really enjoy this game immensely.

Previously Stated:

It has to be a mix to get a combo that high, as there aren't enough rows and columns otherwise.

So I don't think it is unrealistic that the max possible multiplier is (practically) 512x.

Further thoughts:

Actually, I had some Tetris-effect nightmares about this one over the last few days and have given "max multiplier" some more thought.

I THINK you can hit 2048.  Basically that is a 12-hit-combo.

I am pretty sure in every possible scenario of getting there you clear a 7x7 board of cookies.

That combo is worth roughly 50k if you do it with 5 full-rank columns (worth approx 10k by itself) and 7 rows of 2 (the last 3 pairs are worth 5k, 10k, 20k, respectively...)

I would have to do the math on a full-board clear that starts with column-of-7, row-of-6, column-of-6, all the way down to the last pair for a clear.  When I thought through it earlier, I think that leaves you 1 short of the scenario above at 1024x, and since you are missing the relatively big multiplier on the full-rank columns or rows you lose out scorewise, almost certainly.

Anyway, I'm sure there is a Youtube video somewhere of a pro pulling off a max combo for 50k on Level 1

Not too bad for having only played this game a few times.  Still not sure how the scoring works, but I got pretty far.

Ok... well then the posting rules for the weekly contests are REALLY confusing! The last rule for posting scores says:

" If you are posting an updated score, please edit your initial post with the new photo and score. You can still create a separate new post as a bump to notify you edited your score if desired."

soo... yeah

Please don't twist my words around.  Participants typically say something like "new score posted" or "score updated" to let everyone know they have submitted a new score.  No one uses the word "bump" by itself to signify a score change.  Using the word "bump" by itself is confusing to contest participants since the threads are stickied to prevent them from dropping off the first page of Gamer's Gauntlet.  Again, "bump" is used throughout the site to bump a thread that hasn't had a reply in a day or two and someone wants to get it noticed.  And these threads don't have a sticky attached to them.  Let's not turn this into a big deal.  Conversation over since I feel I've explained it clearly.

The Paperboy contest is now up. As always, the Yoshi's Cookie contest will not end early and still runs until 11 PM NA time tonight. So, if you've eaten more cookies than Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and don't want to play anymore Yoshi's Cookie, test out your throwing arm with Paperboy. Just try not to break any windows.

Sorry, SpaceJockey :/    Basically rode out the last level to get to (what will hopefully remain at) 2nd place.
Passed up a couple of opportunities to finish the last level since I was still a few hundred points shy of 2nd, at the time.

Great score Nathan! To say the truth, I thought that you were going to win this week's contest. Looks like arnpoly really nailed the good balance to maximize the score.
