I'd like to record gameplay footage from the AVS just to have or possibly post online. I've never recorded any type of gameplay before. If anyone here has any suggestions on what they prefer to use in order to capture or post gameplay, I would be interested in learning about it. Thanks!

Thanks! I checked out some reviews and it looks like the way to go. I might go pick one up tonight.

It looks like it can even capture gameplay from older consoles that use composite and s-video. Maybe I can even rig it to record from my NES.

no problem! I believe it comes standard with HDMI and you need some kind of adapter to use older inputs. I was looking into them a long time ago so maybe they've changed since then, but thats always the one I see recommended

https://www.elgato.com/en/gaming/... Thats the one I use too. Could find them used on ebay for ~$80. There are probably cheaper alternatives but the el gato quality is very good.

Yup that's the one. I'll check out ebay to see if I can save a couple bucks. Used is fine for me. Thanks bunny.

Be careful on buying used Elgatos. They have a common problem of the USB ports being iffy. If you see a used one at a really good price, well.. you might be getting what you pay for, and not in a good way.

As far as model differences, the original Elgato Game Capture HD is the only one that will do analog inputs out of the box. If you get an HD60 or HD60S, then you need an upscaler to convert the analog to digital/HDMI. If you have a desktop, then there is the internalized option for the HD60S, which is what I would personally go for.

There are many HDMI capture devices though by different companies--Elgato, Hauppauge, AverMedia, etc. I would do some research and choose the one that you think will suit you best.

Thanks for the heads up. I ended up buying a used Elgato Game Capture HD off Ebay for $80. Hopefully the USB port doesn't cause me any grief. If everything works like it should I'll link my high score run of High Speed. I'm gonna see what happens with the score once you go over 99,999,999.

I recently bought a used Elgato Capture HD from eBay and yeah, the USB port is causing me issues and can't recognise a video signal.

Hope you don't have any issues man.

I got the Elgato Game Capture HD for $40 at a flea market about 1 year ago. It has the box and all accessories. At first, I wasn't sure if I'd keep it, but it actually seems like exactly the right capture device for me since I have so many analog sources.

I love my Elgato HD. I'd like to pick up the HD-60 soon, as I generally use my AVR as a recording interface and the original Elgato HD can only capture 1080p30 as a maximum.

Sure enough the used Elgato I bought off Ebay has an issue. It randomly disconnects from the AVS. The longest it's gone without disconnecting is about 10 minutes. I'm in the process of returning it right now. I've been on Ebay since 2004 and this is the first purchase I've ever returned!

Well, the D-bag seller didn't want to accept a return but I won the case through ebay and I'm returning the defective elgato (I'm on the fence if I should hit him with a negative feedback). I think I'm gonna try a different model, a brand new one this time. Maybe the HD-60... It sucks that it didn't work. I maxed out the score playing High Speed on the AVS and really wanted to record it. :/

I use the Elgato HD60, and it works wonderfully with the AVS. Just keep in mind that other, older consoles are a little tricky to get to work with it since it only wants 480p and up via HDMI. I basically have to use an S-video to HDMI upconverter to get any of the older consoles to run, or use a Retron 5.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll try to answer best as I can.

I second the Elgato HD60 for the AVS. My review was captured with it and I've never had any problems with it. Pricey, but worth it.
