Hello everyone and welcome to a new week of fun.  It's Tetris time!  Yes, this week's contest is going to be Tetris and two pictures are going to be required for this one.  Two pictures you say?  Here are the rules that explain why:
  • Play the Nintendo version
  • Play on Type A and start on Level 0
  • Play on Type B and start on Level 9, Height 5
  • Your two scores do not have to be achieved consecutively
  • Take pictures of your best score on Mode A and Mode B
  • Your Mode B score must be taken on the death screen (where the lines fill up), or on the screen where the Nintendo characters are playing instruments
  • Add both of your scores together to get your final score
  • Highest overall score wins
  • GENRE: Puzzle


The contest ends Sunday, 3/24/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will not be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Holy crap yes! I'm not the best at puzzle games...but I am good at this one. I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask since it will probably come up..... The Nintendo version and NOT the Tengen version,correct?

Yes, we are playing with the Nintendo version and not the Tengen version.  Forgot to make that clear in the rules but it is fixed now

Gonna be fun seeing the type-B scores. I mis-read the rules at first. Played on level 9 height 0 cleared it and was like yeah I killed it!!....took a picture and then read over the instructions again.....height 5. Doh....

Nice, hopefully I'll have more time to work on this than I did with Double Dragon Unfortunately I almost always break down on type A by the time I hit level 14, so I doubt I'll come anywhere near the high end of this compo.

EDIT: new score below





Had a nice starting score on type-A...followed by the worst possible score on type-B. Don't think I will be much of a contender on the B-type but I understand why it's there and it's a nice twist.

Just to clarify, the A and B runs have to be consecutive, right? So we can't just take our two best scores on each mode overall and combine them to make our best overall total score?

A-Type - 116,880

Better,but still piss poor. I can still do better. Not sure what's more fun,coming up with things to put in for the name on the high score or the game itself.
116,880 + 4,000 = 120,880.

Kevin, if we choose, can we start at a different level than 0, or do we have to start there?

Starting from any other level actually scales pretty evenly throughout the course of the game, so it -shouldn't- matter, but I'll leave that decision to you

@Krunch: Very good question. You guys can submit your best scores for each game type.

@Adam: I'm gonna have everyone start on level 0 for mode A. For this week, I want everyone to play on the absolute easiest setting Tetris followed by the hardest setting.
