Package #5a - NOW YOUR KNITTING WITH POWER brochure sold
Well... I pulled your leg a bit on this one - In August of this year I came across the one-page brochure below while rummaging through my Archives and released it toe the puplic on my Gamemaster Howard Facebook page. This brochure was handed out to trade and press at the 1987 CES. It was rumored to exist but no-one could find one anywhere. Apparently, this is the only one remaining in existance. It is in mint condition except for the upper right corner which has a ~1/2" crumple.
Package Contents;
-
The only known brochure in existance for the Nintendo Knitting Machine.
Package #5b - the ULTIMATE NINTENDO POWER COLLECTION sold
HINT: "The Biggest Nintendo Story in 2012?"
With the end of Nintendo Power just weeks away this package has special meaning. It's contents speak to the origins of Nintendo Power in the Fun Club News, the heydays of the first 25 issues (while I was editor), plus as a bonus, issues 25-50 (after I left Nintendo) and two Nintendo Power companion Hint Books that I edited;
-
Nintendo Fun Club News - volumes 2-7 in near-mint condition (no address labels) - kept since leaving Nintendo in 1991 – I’ve temporarily misplaced volume 1 – if and when I find it in my Archives I’ll include it in the package
-
Nitnendo Power - volumes 1-25 -n near mint condition (no address labels) - kept since leaving Nintendo in 1991 – Howard & Nester Comics
-
Nintendo Power - volumes 26-50 in near mint condition (no address labels) - kept since leaving Nintendo in 1991
-
1993 Nintendo Power Index for the first 50 issues of Nintendo Power detailing game coverage by section of the magazine
-
The Legend of Zelda Tips and Tactics
-
How to Play Super Mario
The above magazines and books are all in mint or near-mint condition as by the time I received them, I had no need to reread them - as editor, I had spent many late nights and early mornings pooring over the contents during production. Also, they are "clean" as they do not have any address labels affixed to them.
Notably, this package also includes four unique one-of-a-kind items that I think you'll find interesting (see below
-
the original Nintendo Power Charter Member Certificate listing me as a Member ; )
-
the original framed Howard & Nester comic 1st press check - given to me as as a gift when Nintendo Power first launched
-
the only full-rez scan and high quality print (1 of 1) of the framed Howard & Nester "goodbye" comic original artwork - given to me as a gift when I left Nintendo and Nintendo Power and never published (it includes over-the-top humor)
-
the original Howard and Nester Tetris block models used in the photo shoot for the Jan / Feb '90 issue - An Adventure In Tetris World
Package #6a - THE GAMEMASTER TOOLKIT
HINT: "Now It's Personal"
During the 8-bit heydays at Nintendo I personally evaluated over 500 NES game and 100 GameBoy games. The tools of the trade were an NES with a clean connector, a Controller, a Zapper and a GameBoy with good batteries. Now's your chance to be the Gamemaster with this package which includes my personal NES, Controller, Zapper, and Gameboy which I used for evaluating the games.
Package Contents;
-
My Personal NES Deck, Controller, and Zapper
-
My personal GameBoy
To make it extra interesting, you can rate each game using the NES or Gameboy and then contrast your rating with the score I gave each game when I evaluated it at the time. I'll explain the rating system to you in greater detail, but briefly, the scores I gave were on a 0-40 point scale while the "public" scores posted in Nintendo Power via the Power Meter were adjusted to a 20 point scale.
Let me know what you think...
Package #6b - SNES PAL and non-retail Super Mario World PAL cart - (prototype?)
HINT: "Imaging the Possibilities..."
Yes, imagine the possibilities with the
non-retail SMW cart included in this package. Is it a deferentiated version of SMW? Or is it "merely" a non-retail labeled version of the standard shipping cart?
In the next day or so I will play this pre-release SMW cart extensively in an attempt to identify differences if any between this cart's bits and that of the shipped version.
Your suggestions on specific differences to look for are welcome!
Imagine finding this unmarked box in your Archives ; )
With this packaging and draft user's manual (no SMW manual was included);
With this low-serial number Pal console;
with this low serial number;
With this draft manual;
With this non-retail PAL cart;
It appears to not be a production ROM (Hand-labeled) or PCB (SHVC-2P3B-01)...

I purchased a voltage converted specifically to play this PAL system that I will include with the package.
Package Contents;
-
Pre-Release PAL SNES system serial # PP-G-0057 including one controller and all pack-in cables and power supply
-
Pre-Release PAL Super Mario World cartridge
-
One 110-220 voltage converter 2012 vintage ; )
FYI - unlike the 60hz-50hz hassle of the 8-bit days, the SNES video out is compatible with my Visio HD LCD and also I believe with most current generation TVs.
What do you all think? Interested in discovering more about the SMW cart or the history behind this low-serial number pre-release system?
Package #7 - the One-Of-A-Kind Original XBOX Launch Package sold
HINT: "In the Year 2525..."
This package contains many items associated with launch of the original Xbox including one very special item, a commemorative piece that contains the very First Official Xbox Certification Submission sent to Microsoft for replication; NHL Hitz by Midway dated June 28th, 2001 and submitted on July 2nd, 2001.
Package Contents;
-
The First Official Xbox Certification Submission Disc with commemorative mounting - this is the only one in existence as there can be ONLY ONE.
-
The XBOX Launch Team translucent green version of the console with matching translucent green controllers and AV cord - just 60 (?) were made. BillG's signature is screened in metal underneath the XBOX jewel.
-
The XBOX prototype replica model in machined and polished metal with illuminated XBOX logo - don't know how many of these were made.
-
The XBOX Developer Disc with the original SDK bits.
-
The XBOX "Halo Test" (?) disc (haven't investigated contents).
-
The XBOX Fall 2001 Brochure handed out at E3 2001.
-
The XBOX "Collector Series Official Trading Card" full set in ABSOLUTELY MINT CONDITION made available only (?) at E3 2001. It says "Collect all 16" but for marketing purposes no card #13 was made.
-
Various stickers, badges, and pens from the launch plus one pre-final logo "xbox 2001" baseball cap.
While early in their collector life - these items will certainly appreciate in value significantly between now and 2025 ; )
Questions anyone?
