Hello Nintendo Age,
My name is Martin Alessi. (retroplayer)
I was Senior Editor and Art Director for EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) from 1989-1994 during the golden age of 8-bit and 16-bit gaming.

I collect and play mostly NES and Famicom games these days though I do like some of the games this generation has to offer.

I've heard of DreamTR through the recent Zelda prototype auction on eBay and am looking for him and others like him for information on prototypes. If anyone know him or is knowledgable about such things please send me a private message.

Thanks and nice to meet you,
Martin Alessi (retroplayer)

Welcome to NA

I subscribed to EGM through its entire lifespan its a shame I tossed the majority of them out when my parents sold their old home!

Welcome! I would love to hear any stories from those good old days that you may have! I loved EGM during those days, and still have many of them I still enjoy to read. I would particularly love to hear about any proto stories you may have. How often did they come through your guys hands?

EDIT: SUSHI X FOR LIFE!!!!

Thank you for all the warm welcomes!

Sadly most of the prototypes entrusted to EGM were destroyed by the new staff years after I had left.

I did however find a rather interesting prototype in my basement this summer.

I think it's an great piece of Nintendo history, if not a good conversation starter.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Martin

Wait, what? Amazing! You should totally do an AMA - Reddit style in the collector's corner. I bet a ton of us would love to ask you a bunch of questions about the gaming industry in the 80's/90's.

Edit to say: Hello and welcome.

I'd like to consider myself pretty well educated as far as protos go. You can see a list of many (though not all) of the protos that I currently own with my brother in the opening post in this thread:

Let me know if you'd like to chat, and welcome to the site.

Welcome aboard! DreamTR and the Nolan Brothers are pretty much the definitive resource on prototypes, so you've come to the right place.

Thank you for your part in all the great mags I read growing up. I still love looking through my copies of EGM and SNES Buyer's Guide.

Welcome Martin. I never thought I would be talking to you in the future on an internet forum when I read that magazine back in 1989. Post some pics of your collection.

Nintendo Power Issue 1 Sealed in the Original Mailer - front

Nintendo Power Issue 1 Sealed in the Original Mailer - back

I have many rare magazines and brochures from the early years. I am in the process of getting a tabloid scanner so I can preserve these digitally without having to harm them in any way.

Thanks to everyone again for the all the warm greetings and for helping me reach the prototype experts in the community.

I mostly collect Famicom and Super Famicom games these days and will post some scans/pics as soon as I can.

Martin
