Hello everyone and welcome to the Finals of the 2013 Weekly Contest Summer Tournament!  The first two rounds were full of great gameplay and some impressive scores.  The finals should be no exception   The final game for the tournament is going to be Life Force.  Contestants, please read the rules very carefully for your tier.  Failure to play by the correct rules could result in your score being disqualified.  Here are the rules for each tier:

Tier 1
  • 1 life only
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Shoot ‘Em Up

Tier 2

  • Play until Life 0
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Shoot ‘Em Up

Tier 3

  • Play until Life 0
  • Highest score wins
  • GENRE: Shoot ‘Em Up

A note to all the contestants.  You cannot see your score on a boss fight, so it could be possible for you to lose all your allotted lives at a boss and not be able to capture your score.  Play it safe and capture your score prior to a boss fight.

The contest ends Sunday, 7/28/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Here's the official tournament thread for all the details on the tournament itself, plus a place for smack talk   Also, the top three scorers in each tier in the finals will win a prize.  Check the thread below for details on the prizes.

Good luck everyone! I'm not too hot when it comes to Life Force, but I'll certainly do my best. It's a fun game, so I'm glad to see it in the final round.

I just got home and I'm glad I made it to the finals, but out of all the games that were originally selected as possibilities for the final round, Life Force was by far and away my worst. Auto-scrolling shooters may be my worst overall type of games (with exception to Dragon Spirit). Still, it's a good choice for variety, so I'm fine with it.

Since I did better than I ever imagined in TMNT II, maybe there's some hope for this one too. Anyway, good luck all!

Out of all the games that were left,I am by far the best at Life Force. It's one of my favorite nes games! The competition is tough,so we'll see how it goes. I'm just grateful to guillavoie for allowing me to advance as I know he would have put up a top 3 score in NG 2.

Oh I know we are all battling for 2nd place. While there are a (very) few games that I know I could hold my own with Tom,this is not one of them. Honestly I never paid attention to score when I played this. I was more concerned with finishing it. I've never no deathed this game, but I can beat it without continuing (and without using the Konami code) so I have a puncher's chance.....for 2nd or 3rd at least.....and that's okay,I have never played Mario is Missing anyway.

Well, I should also be in Tier 1 as well, but we all know how that goes! Just be thankful I'm not there to steal your Mario is Missing, making you take 3rd! Bahahaah

I just gave it a quick playthrough and based on Tom's TG score, he must have looped the game about 20 times. I've always been better at Life Force than Gradius for whatever reason, but I'm nowhere near that good.

Don't worry i got the Tom problem covered. I gave a mod a $50 dollar bill to make sure Tom has some problems logging in.   :-)

I think I'll be able to put up a decent score, but Tom's 5,073,030 record should be safe. You are all just lucky that Bimmy didn't go away from the list and pick Baseball.

I figured it was more like 5 than 35. How else do you think I finished on top of the first half sports genre leaderboard?

That's on one life. Am I bummed we aren't playing Bubble Bobble? A little....

Anyways, I am heading to the casino tomorrow but I have put a few hours into Life Force. Will probably have my first score up sometime tomorrow.

True! You should definitely play RBI Baseball though. Can't believe you've never played that game. If you play it (and Bad News Baseball),you'll probably play black box Baseball a lot less.
