So I know about Mario games, DK series, Contra games, Gargoyle's, Kirby, Mega Man V.. but somehow I didn't know about Goemon or Ninja Gaiden!

Any others that I didn't mention that are worth playing?

Blaster Master, Bionic Commando, Kid Icarus, and Double Dragon 2

There is actually two bionic commando games for GB and GBC.  Both are worth checking out.

Battletoads on game boy is its own game and is exclusive to game boy, its quite good, its hard but still easier than the NES game.

Adventure Island is really a port of adventure island 2, and I think the same goes for 2 on GB --> 3 on NES.

Dig Dug and Ducktales I wasnt sure, but according to wiki, they appear to be just ports.

Not really sure on Spider-man since there's many different spider man games, but none of them on Game Boy are subtitled Return of Sinister Six?  I've played SM1 and 3 on gb, but havent played Sinister Six, I suspect they're all different games.   The 3rd one is really bad.

Someone else suggested Kid Icarus, thats a good one high recommend.   Can't think of any more.... Tetris lol?

Batman is a good one.  Also, about Double Dragon 2, It's vastly different from the NES and arcade games.  If I'm not mistaken it was a Kunio game that got heavily altered and a name change for the US.  I just remembered there was a Bonk gameboy game as well that I remember being pretty fun.

edit:
Blastermaster Boy (actually a bomberman game that was a sequel to Robowarrior)
A boy and his blob rescue of princess blobbette (sequel to first game)
Gargoyle's Quest (this was actually the first game in the series)

It has the same cover as Batman: return of the Joker for GB aswell. Or is that what you were referring to?

There's a Batman The Video Game that has an NES and Gameboy version. Completely different games in terms of level design and weapons.

Return of the Joker is another good one, though. I forgot that had a Gameboy release.

Do Link's Awakening, Gargoyle's Quest, and Metroid 2 count? Since they're technically direct tie-ins to the home console series?

I was working on a post and my lame browser backed up and erased it.

Are you limiting this to the NES as you keep bringing that up or any system that was going on that got games or later conversions of games that would fit? Not just Gameboy but also still same hardware but better Color got some stuff too. The GBC got Dragon Warrior1+2 and 3, Blaster Master, 1942, Ghosts n Goblins, stuff you noted like the Mario, Castlevania, Contra, Megaman1-5, Zelda and Kirby stuff, Mr Driller, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter Alpha, Tetris, Top Gear Pocket 1+2, 3D Ultra Pinball Thrillride, Shadowgate, Deja Vu1+2, the laserdisc version of Dragon's Lair, Cannon Fodder, and there are others.

The GB got some stuff too even in Japan we didn't but were part of the older heritage too. Kid Niki on the NES had 2 looked nothing like it Famicom sequels, but on the GB there was a true sequel with the visuals and audio to match called Ganso Yanchamaru. GB got TG16 things like the Bonk's Adventure and Revenge games but not conversions, they were unique. Gradius and Gradius Interstellar Assault were different, as were Double Dragon 1-3 though 2 was mostly so as it was a repainted version of a Kunio brawler. Duck Tales 1 and 2 got conversions with little changed more so on #2 though as did Darkwing Duck. Metroid and Kid Icarus were fresh as were the three TMNT titles. Adventure Island 1 and 2 were revised ports of AI2 and 3 on the NES. Batman got 2 GB games but also a N64 conversion of all things of Batman Beyond for GBC. If you are ok throwing in some more UK/EU stuff Popn Twinbee got released as did Twinbee, Goemon, Parodius, and others in those Konami GB Collection carts in english no less.

I know I'm missing a lot but I don't feel like diving a game list.

Metroid II is an obvious but excellent one. Highly underrated, IMO. Metal Gear Solid is an awesome, unique experience on GBC.

Gargoyle's Quest predates the NES version by two years, so it better count

Yeah, Kid Icarus is a big change from the NES version.

And Tetris actually has a different playing field size (and has link-based play), so it is a different version of the game entirely from the NES release.

Not to mention that the GB Tetris feels totally different, like its tighter somehow.  I'll take the NES version any day.    I wonder if Tetris 2 has similar differences from NES - but no one really cares about that game

I actually prefer the Gameboy version, as it's the one I put the time into as a kid. Also... I care about Tetris 2

Tetris 2 has a level based puzzle mode unique to the Game Boy version.  Good thing some of us care about this game!
