Hey everyone, bimmy_lee and guillavoie are away tonight and asked me to fill in for them. This week's contest is going to be Burai Fighter.  Here are the rules:
  • Play on Eagle mode
  • You must start at level 1
  • Play until Game Over
  • Participation: 50,000
  • To take your picture, start a new game and immediately pause the game.  Your score will be in the top score spot.
  • Highest score wins

The contest ends Sunday, 7/15/12 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun!

Awesome game. A question though. If (when ) we beat it on eagle, do we continue on the next difficulty level or is it best score through eagle only? The score carries over as you progress difficulty levels....

Nice to see this game being done, since we still need this one for the "Can NA Beat Every NES Game In A Year" thread. So make sure to post if you beat it, so I can mark it off.

Played it for the first time today. It is quite fun but difficult. You have to memorize where the enemies come. A bit similar to Section Z except that you don't die when hitting the surroundings. I came to stage 3 but I don't know what to do there.

I second this question and will add to it: When you beat the game, you go back to the difficulty selection screen, where you may freely pick from any difficulty level, INCLUDING the one you just played.  If we keep playing beyond beating the game, then we need to know which difficulty level to pick next.  It seems obvious enough to just play the difficulty levels in order, but best to clearly define this.

I personally hope that we come up with something where we play on after beating the game.  Otherwise, the game becomes a point-racking fest, which I'm never a fan of.

Just my two cents.

You need to find a spaceship somewhere in the level and destroy all of its cannons.  The start screen has a map that shows you where it is in relation to you.  The level is laid out on a grid of square tiles, so count those as you search if that helps.

It's getting better and better. This time I came to level 4 boss without dying but there I lost like four lives. Next time I will know how to beat him easily. Level 5 was so difficult. It is easy until you die and loose all power-ups.

Still not sure on the rules here, but I took a stab.  This is me beating the game once each on all four difficulty settings, one after the other.  I also included the final screen of the best ending. It's possible to play on from here, but my thumb was sore from those darn overhead stages.

Anyway, let me know if this qualifies or not based on whatever rules we decide on.  Thanks.

Sorry for being late to the party Tom. I was out of town for almost all week long, so I couldn't give my input on your proposition for rules.

Well, seeing that you beat it on all 4 difficulty settings, I'd say that we'll go with your idea. When you beat the game on Eagle, you restart on Albatross, then Ace, and then on Ultimate. We'll trust everyone to follow this order according to NA's honor system.

EDIT: On a side note, that's an awesome score Tom. Keep up the good work

Burai Fighter was one of the cartridge I had as a kid, and I always enjoyed it. I'm happy to see you like it too. I never beat it on all 4 difficulty settings though.

Damn work is keeping me away from giving this game a real go. I tried it once last Monday and only got to the second stage. I might have time tomorrow for a late entry but I doubt my score will be relevant. Good game, though.
