Is it just me or does it seem like hardly anyone collect's CIB NES games anymore? Seems like 4-5 years ago people were fighting over them now you can't give them away. The rare games and mint condition games still fetch money but for everything else, seems like people could care less. I've noticed this trend on both this site and ebay.

I was never into CIB because of the cost. It's nice to have, but both worth my money. I have started collecting manuals though because I would actually use them.

I'm pissed that my younger self didn't listen to my mom about keeping my boxes.

I have to agree with Jeevan. I think the cost is just so much higher than lone carts, it's not feasible for most people. You've also got to consider the huge time investment in tracking the stuff down.

That being said, I'm all about it! Gotta get on that box variant thread... and that poster thread... and then of course there is your crazy detailed CIB thread, Austin.

Yeah pretty much this for me. I'm not in a huge rush to drop fat stacks on Zombie Nation at the moment unless someone offers me a deal.

The rare and more expensive ones have gone up but the average ones have stayed about the same so it can't be a money issue. Loose carts have been going down in price so obviously there is less demand for those but CIB games are more scarce.

money is an issue if u support a family and are the bread winner, but ya, i pick and choose because i wanna nostalgia collect first, if i have time, then maybe try something i havent before if it is cheap enough. IDK just my way of looking at it.

Money is the issue though. It's a limited resource which means people have to prioritize. I choose to buy signs or a game like Hagane over buying CIB because those hold more value to me, regardless of what the future value will be in the marketplace since so enjoy them more than boxes.

Some of us have been collecting CIB so long that we're near the end at this point, and spending more time enjoying what we have than anything else. I'm down to 22 games to go for a full CIB set, of which about half of them are still easily attainable, but I only seem to pick up a couple of games a year at this point.

My whole perogative from the beginning was to have a nice huge library of NES games to play, and I certainly haven't stopped with the gaming aspect of the hobby...

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

Same here, I've been collecting CIB since the 90's. I had close to 400 games at one point until one day I decided I wanted all of my games to be in better condition. Ended up selling 2/3 of the collection but I'm slowly working my way back up. I get it though. Most people who have interest in NES CIB already have what they need and the new generation of gamers have no interest in collecting them as they did not grow up with them.

lol, feel free to give them away to me. I'm looking for a few certain common boxes and ebay people apparently think theyre gold in fair-to-good condition.

I'm still here.

As the hobby goes on it naturally progresses to condition. Many years ago you could follow a title on eBay and it just wasn't available CIB except for a few random auctions a year. Well now almost everything is available on eBay, albeit at high prices or poor condition. People still watch those, but they are more patient to wait for a better price or better condition to appear.

If you're going for a full set, or think that you might want to do more than just pick up some meaningful or random titles, those high dollar ones at the end make it pointless to even begin. I couldn't justify the prices in 2013 when I got back into things, and I certainly can't now.

They're already done or sold it all at high prices to people who will never finish the set. It's mostly trending towards SNES n64 and Gc these days aswell. It's what people want.

I have been working towards a full set for a while now. Down to like the last 100 or so, plenty of titles I still need CIB that are not crazy expensive. Mostly I just plod along picking up stuff when I can or if I find something for a good deal. Definitely more picky about condition the further along I go. Went back and re-evaluated all the ones I currently had and decided which ones I wanted to upgrade. I dont need "dead mint", general wear is fine, but like to avoid rips / tears / fading (pretty well want everything to be a 7+). About half the titles I still need are < $100 CIB. Ideally I like to just buy box / manual and save myself a little time / hassle / money

We are still here! Trying to stay in budget and get a full CIB NES set isn't challenging just time consuming. My frequency of buying has dropped to a snails pace compared to when I started but I have a lot of the harder to find CIB's to show for it. I am averaging about 1-2 purchases a year because I have just been stock piling my game budget each month waiting for the next game on my list. Once I get about 3-4 more that I need then the rest of the collection is all downhill from there. Will ramp up to about 5-6 purchases per month until I am finished with the complete licensed set. Oh and then there is different variants...1st print runs....sticker seals...glossy sticker sealed....unlicensed....it never ends! I will be 85 still checking for games to "finish" my collection.
