It's hard to afford games like SE when most of my hard earned money goes to scotch, which in turn consoles me for not having a complete enough set.  It's a vicious cycle man

The majority of people take them for what they are, something fun, for which you can choose to either participate in or not.

Depends on who you ask I guess, I never ask anyone for pictures.  If someone tells me they have fulfilled the requirements for an award then I give it to them.  If they are lying about it then they are a tool, and that is their problem.  If someone is brand new maybe they will get asked for some proof, like I said I haven't done it. Awards are impossible to maintain with accuracy, do you think we are combing every FS thead and ebay listing to see if someone sells off an item for an award they have?  They are by and large done on the honor system, and if you are a person who feels the need to lie to get a meaningless little badge on the bottom of your NA profile then you have some issues.

I was wondering how you could sleep at night, but I guess you probably just drink yourself to sleep.

That's my take on it. They are badges meant to be fun on a website dedicated to video game collecting, which is also supposed to be fun. And yet more often than not, people somehow find a way to argue and dissect every little detail, and hate on each other or some aspect of the hobby to the point where it becomes silly.

Who cares about the number of a full set? Make a goal that makes you happy, and try to achieve it. Not to impress others or get validation in the hobby or for a shiny badge, but because it brings you joy and is fun. The NES full set list isn't a set in stone, end all be all list. It is just a list that a portion of the hobby agrees upon as being considered the full licensed list. It is a fun goal to set for yourself. Maybe someone is totally happy saying they have a full Nes Set minus SE, or consider it a full set even without SE . It isn't hurting me or the hobby.

Even if they are wrong, or you disagree with their list, who really cares at the end of the day lol?

And the complaints/"damages" in the OP are just downright silly.

Games get passed over because of popularity? - That isn't any fault but your own. Always try something out for yourself before you make an opinion and toss it aside as garbage.

Game values are hurt?- Well games shouldn't be considered an investment in the first place, as there are much better options for your money. Buying any big ticket item in this hobby you knowingly take the risk of losing value for a myriad of reasons. Like any other hobby.

The history?- Do you honestly think in the age of the internet, the history of this hobby and the information on its games are going to be lost because of what/how people classify their collections on an internet forum?

I love all the mentions of Sachen, but it's only one example. Quick poll - what is the rarest US NES release? We'll exclude Sachen releases to keep it civil, but I'm pretty sure that only removes Huge Insect from this question anyway. Oh, and guess what, it IS NOT STADIUM EVENTS!!! That's right, humble old Myriad 6-in-1 is the absolute pinnacle of rarity on the NES as far as US releases go. And yet it sells for a fraction of the price of Stadium Events because people decide to exclude unlicensed games for one reason or another. THAT is one of the key points Dave's trying to make in the OP. I'm okay with people going for what makes them happy. I'm okay with them excluding things that they don't want or can't justify the expense of. I'm NOT okay with people saying they have a full set when they don't. Saying you have a full set, even with qualifiers, is saying that you've got everything there is to get. That is NOT the case. Saying you have a full set should mean literally that - that you have a fully complete set of everything you can get. When you add qualifiers to the mix, you're basically just saying "I have everything I want to pursue." So say that! Don't start telling people you have a full set when it's obvious to anyone that you don't. Set your collecting goals and achieve them, just don't try to bullshit your way into making it sound like a bigger deal than it truly is.

Also, Dave, while I don't always agree with what you say, I have always loved your threads. I know you get a lot of hate sometimes, but there's love for ya out there too bro! Keep it up man!

But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Speaking of awards, if someone can remove my Twin Galaxies one.  My record got smashed a little while ago, so it's no longer accurate.

As a side note, is it weird that I've never asked to have a badge added, but am now asking for a removal?  Seems like most people give too much of a shit about their e-peen sometimes

You'd think there would be.  I mean, every badge is there with the intent of stroking the recipient's e-peen...

"Full set" fakers

In the Video game world the word/defintion "set" is fake. Nintendo didn't release games as a "set"
