Here we go again with the NA weekly contest, and to start the year in beauty, we're going to play the classic of all classics:

Super Mario Bros.

Rules:
-1 Life Rule

- Warps are allowed

- Highest Score Wins!

The contest ends Sunday, 22/01/12 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun!

Take note that there will be no participation score requirement to earn a participation point this year. Post whatever score you achieved, and you'll earn a participation point.

This contest is the first segment of the Action/Platform Series.
As you may already know, this year the contest is split into 6 blocks where the winner of each block will earn a qualification place for a final tournament of champions that will take place at the end of the year. Each block will be composed of 6 games that represent 6 different video games genre. A specific leaderboard will be made for each video games genre, and the winner of each genre will also earn a qualification place for the tournament of champions. For more detailed information, you can check this thread: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

I'm throwing here the list of games that will be played through the first block:

1st week Action/Platform Series: Super Mario Bros.
2nd week: Sports Series: R.C. Pro Am
3rd week: Arcade Series: Burger Time
4th week: Shoot 'Em Up/Shooter Series: Gradius
5th week: Beat 'Em Up Series: Double Dragon
6th week: Puzzle Series: Wrecking Crew

Rules for every games will be revealed later tonight, when Bimmy Lee will post the new leaderboard thread along with the detailed list of games for the 1st block.

Leaders:

Miss Clawful: 776,250
Philbracy: 775,650
Sconley666: 721,400
Luigi Master: 613,350
Quack: 397,550

Perfect choice for first game of the year, already did it myself, no deathed at that, but going for points with a no death run, that'll be a bit more challenging. So, with gaining points, anything open (such as turtle shell on steps trick) being the 1 life rule and timer?

For Gradius, and Wrecking Crew, is it okay if I use a multicart? That's the only way I physically own those two games.

As long as there is no difference from the NES versions, then that will be fine.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Gradius has no title logo nor copyright information, and I don't remember what Wrecking Crew is missing.

Shouldn't be a problem unless the games on the multicart are easier or are missing levels from the NES versions.

Would captured videos be allowed to show score in place of a pic?

@ Crabmaster2000 - I personally don't have a problem with submit a caputred video instead of a picture as long as the entire TV screen or computer monitor is visible as well as your user name.

@Philbracy - You can re-submit your score as many times as you would like before the end of the week. The only stipulation is that you re-use your orginal score submission post to submit new scores. It's easier for me to tally up everyone's score at the end of the week if they only have one post with a score instead of like five or more.

Updated my score, and decided to play on my childhood NES with my childhood SMB/DH.

Score is:  832,450

In case you're wondering, I was on stage 2-2 and had 687 time left.

I meant captured right onto the computer so you wouldnt see any tv monitors or have my username visible. I could upload the video to my youtube channel which is run under my username though, would that be ok?

Your score will be considered valid, but next time, put your username somewhere else so we can see in what stage you are, and the timer as well.

Okay, took some time today to play some SMB, and while I consider myself pretty good at it, I never really played it for score, at least not on a 1 life rule. So far half a dozen attempts, and while I got a decent score, if I haven't been playing so sloppy I'd at least be even on the hundred thousands place as the world I was in. Going to keep trying, I know I can pull off a better score than this, but its a good start I guess.

Score upon 1st death 700,200 in World 8-2

See latest post for better score...

Oh, are we to stop on the 1st quest or keep going even after beating it until a life is lost? Heck I can't even remember if score continues to rack up each successive game or not.

I think the score does not continue after beating the game.

I updated my score, and I noticed the world and timer was obscured after I took the picture. It was in world 4-2 if you were curious.

You are correct.  The score does reset after you beat the game.

Okay. Got a new higher score, but interestingly died in the same exact place as my last high score on this level, falling down that hole right before that Bullet Bill cannon, fell short with my jump again, how odd being so many more difficult places to die at.

Score upon 1st death 776,250 World 8-2

See latest post for higher score...
