Hey everyone.  This week's contest is going to be a pinball game and it will be Rollerball.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 ball only (no "Extra Ball/Shoot Again" allowed.  Once you lose the ball, that's it).
  • Participation: 50,000

The contest ends Sunday, 5/15/11 at 10 PM NA time, 9 PM central time.  Your user name must be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  Good luck everyone and have fun!

Only one ball? That's not much of a pinball game.

I'll kick things off then, probably my favourite pinball game for NES but I haven't played that much of it except for the 2player mode and because it sometimes glitches up on my PAL TV. Didn't do too bad here though:

I'd like to clarify something about the 'one ball' rule.
If we get the 'shoot again' bonus for clearing the upper part of the pinball machine, can we use it or not.

Giving the 'one ball rule', I guess that we can't, otherwise we would say 'one life rule', right?

The "shoot again" bonus cannot be used.  Once you lose your ball, that's it.  Basically, it will be just like the Pin Bot contest from last year.  No "shoot again" or "extra ball" bonuses were allowed and won't be for this game.  It's like the 1 life rule.

I may submit one on this, but I have notoriously bad luck with pinball where by none of my own flipper actions the damn balls just love to bounce off stuff and fly down the sides. :\

I may likely by the end of the week get thomped on this, but I got one for ya. I had this cart up until a few months ago, got sick of it as I'm very inconsistent with pinball in general, but I just had one of my rare GOOD inconsistent games.

I've never been consistent on pinball games, score always varies drastically, sometimes I lose an entire game within mere minutes, other times I can keep a game over for a half hour or longer, its just so random, but still enjoyable regardless. I gave it a few hours play this evening, most of my scores were below a hundred thousand, had a couple in the one hundred thousand range, one in the two hundred thousands, then right after that one, blew them all away with one well over a million before finally losing my first ball. Damn, would've loved to have had this game recorded, pretty awesome play, for me anyway. Wanted to get in something really good since I've rarely been able to play much of anything, want to have something to show for at least.

Score upon losing 1st ball 1,478,720

^I know how you feel. I will usually crap out on ball one somewhere after 100k and before 200k usually on it, mostly closer to 100k though. I just happened to hit the ball lock, locked it, and kept the multiball going. It has a unique setup where if one ball falls off the screen it's saved for the next so it acts as a bail out cushion on the multiple tiers.

Can't wait for High Speed, as that's my pinball game of choice. Will try to pick this one up tonight as my dad and I love pinball games.

Dammit, I had a really good run going last night and then the game glitched on me. I was at the very top part of the table with multi-ball going and had just lit up "SKYHIGH" for the third consecutive time and was in the process of destroying the bumpers when both balls went down the right side where I had the ball lock activated at the same time. It pushed one of the balls out, but the other one just stayed in there and bounced around. The ball that got pushed out fell down one tier on the table shortly afterward, and since the other ball was still just bouncing around in the ball lock, the game wouldn't do anything. All I could do was sit there and watch that one ball bounce around. I wish this game had a nudge feature, as that would've corrected the problem.

Don't forget to TYPE out your score and make the font bigger. Make it easier to bimmy to to make the score board, and for everyone to see your score.

Here's the rules page with score posting guidelines:
