You're going to get a bunch of replies that probably don't work that well. I would suggest lighter fluid, I use it on all my items and it works great. I took a sticker off of Bubble Bobble Part 2, that's how much I trust it.
I squirt some on a Q-Tip, then use the Q-Tip to apply it to the area. Rubbing it with the cotton tip is slightly abrasive but not enough to damage and after that I wipe it with a paper towel.

Alcohol, iosprop as high pure as you can get. I think Walmart has 93% for a few bucks.

Turtle wax sticker and adhesive remover, it's sold in automotive stores. Maybe big box home repair stores I've never looked. But I'm not 100% sure what it'd do to shrink wrap. But it definitely makes adhesive (even adhesive on 50 year old cars that have bumper stickers or whatever on them) go away.

Alright, I tried 100% isopropyl and got most of it off. Still some very minor remnants of a sticker left over but I don't want to risk damaging the shrinkwrap. It's better than it was. It's amazing how much of a difference 7% can make.

We use the product undu for stickers, works well most of the time and can't damage the underlying product really.

Wil this work directly on a NES box or will it soak into the cardboard?

Works right on the box flawlessly. I use goo gone for plastic boxes and undu for paper and cardboard. Never once had it damage anything, it dries quickly and is not oily. It's really handy to be honest. I bought a little plastic scraper kit but it usually comes with one on the bottle too. Just don't scrape so deeply that you gouge the box obviously.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. This could save me quite a bit of money down the road.

Where did you find that? I’ve been very precious with my 99% isopropyl alcohol that I bought many years ago; never see higher than 91 for sale nowadays.

I didn't think so. Figures, lol. I'd settle for more 99%. Last time I could only find expensive stuff, but $20 for a quart isn't bad https://isopropyl-alcohol.com/col...

Goo Gone works wonders for situations like this.

It does such a good job, I have it as part of my cleaning kit for video games.

Get some paper towel and fold it. Soak in it rubbing alcohol and put it on the sticker glue. Let it sit for 10 minutes and it should rub right off.

On glossy cardboard and shrink-wrap, I like lighter fluid personally, but patience, small amounts and repitition go a long way, gently applying in small amounts and letting it sit as short as possible. On surfaces that absorb, I like a white colored pencil eraser and just very gentle approach with tons of patience, slowly erasing away the residue. I always like to balance risk to reward as well. This would be a good video.

goo gone is similar to an orange degreaser. I would HIGHLY recommend not using it to clean plastic and or paperboard.

light fluid works best and evaporates quickly

I was doing some research on this last night and it seemed it would be great for magazines or cardboard, but a lot of reviews are saying it doesn't work or the formula has changed and it's now weaker than it once was.

When was the last time you bought this stuff?

The best advice we could probably get would be from Kenneth Thrower. :-)

I'd say my current bottle is about a year old. Hopefully they didn't change it for the worse because I'm running low on it. You have to saturate the sticker pretty good for it to work though, and it still takes some peeling and scraping if the sticker basically bonded with the material. Still back when I first began I remember reading people's tricks, use steam from hot water, a blow dryer, all sorts of stuff that would not do the job but also damage it. Between undu and goo gone ive never damaged a game again.

I joined the Bestine gang because of NintendoAge (I thought Undu was the same thing, but I guess they changed their formulation?). Goo Gone definitely stains paper, so I try to only use it on plastic. Not sure how good Bestine is on dried residue honestly though. It's what movie poster people use to get tape off posters. Somehow us video game people gravitated towards Goo Gone and Brasso in our restoration efforts. I swear we're like the People of Walmart of the collecting world.
