It's election time in a little over a month, and I would like to know where NA members stand politically. If you are not a US citizen, please select the option that you are not voting and you are a foreign citizen. Also, please keep this message board clean of angry rhetoric. I encourage political commentary/opinions/discussion, but I don't want this to turn into something nasty like you see on youtube. Thanks.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

If you are talking about people leaving hateful comments, I trust that people in the NA community are mature enough to avoid that. I don't think there is anything wrong with discussing politics though. If people are too thin skinned to argue with each other than they can just choose to ignore this thread.

This all sounds good, but believe me when I say, this is not going to end well.

Good luck, but realize the mods and admins will be carefully watching this thread to make sure it doesn't spin out of control.

Many people get emotional about politics and emotions lead to issues on the forums.

Then you haven't discussed politics enough.

Two things you don't dicuss in public- politics and religion.   As Paul already pointed out, we'll be keeping a keen eye for the impending shitstorm.

I agree, I don't think there's anything wrong with discussing politics (or religion, sexuality, etc) in public. I think there should be more of it really. But at the same time, it's bound to stir up controversy at a close-knit community like NA. It just happens. People are passionate about stuff and end up butting heads in frustration.

The price of my collection has quadrupled since Obama took office. Inflation is great for those who already have it, but if you don't, good luck getting it.

I emailed Obama asking abou how does plan to help students in Loans debt come out of it and to help them not lose all his paycheck on the student loans.

He answered that "Yes there are Federal Loans available for Students" I dont think he checks his email.

I think the one thing most people have forgotten to consider is "Is issue X Constitutional and does the Federal Government even have the authority to act on it?". I would say 90% of the issues the Federal Government sticks their nose in they have no Constitutional authority to do so. The States were supposed to deal with all of the issues that were not included in the very few delegated to the Federal Government. The Federal Government can only promise so many freebies in exchange for votes (on both sides) before they can not confiscate any more money from the private sector. I voted for Ron Paul in the primary and I wish I could vote for him again in November.

I'm going to vote for Romney, but sadly it doesn't make a lick of difference not being in a battleground state. My state is solidly blue . It just takes all the fun out of voting.

I'm voting for the one who will sacrifice when necessary to do what is right. One who will work with those on both sides of the aisle. One who will take responsibility for his actions. One who will not make ridiculous promises that he knows he can't keep. One who will..

oh wait...which ones is that?

For me, I'm gonna vote Obama but I'm not necessarily super stoked on it. Politics in general are slightly absurd to me, and I see how they both use each other to their ultimate benefit by appealing to the dueling nature of we the masses. This way or that way, this is wrong or this is right; ultimately, it's all one big joke and America has this down to a psychological science nowadays, but it is my personal belief that the Democrats (or at least the modern iteration of them) are the most progressive and in touch with where our future society is headed.

For lets face it, 50 years from now, all jobs we have and know of currently will be obsolete with this next coming wave of technology, and, sad to say, but modern capitalism just won't suffice in the future. If we stick to what has worked for the past two hundred years, the unemployment rate will be up to 40 or 50% before long and social unrest will abound. Sure, capitalism had a great run, but we have grown from an industrialized economy to a service based economy within a matter of a hundred years and in the future, who knows where we'll be? Such is just the natural progression of having a society at the forefront of science and technology, we don't know where the future is headed? It's a brave new world we're approaching, with so much technology coming down the pike it's insane: Quantum mechanics, synthetic biology, nanotechnology, the singularity, the future of physics post the higgs boson era, so much it's crazy. Some futurists speculate that man's evolution in the next two hundred years will be so immense it will trump 400,000 years of natural human evolution because now we're approaching the age of artificial evolution, which will blow doors off anything nature or us could even dream. It's gonna be exciting, that's for sure, but slightly frightening as well cause in this world, there is no direct path.

I agree with a number of the social policies the Democrats push for, but I have a real problem with some other aspects of their party. I saw an interesting article that the current Democratic party doesn't have much room for more moderate members in its representation. I'm really curious to see if that has an effect in November. Whether you agree with them or not, the Repubs have at least come up with their Tea Party to satiate the more right-wing factions, and the rest of the base can continue to avoid them if they choose. I think the Democrats need a similar splintering to handle the left-wing factions and let the heavier base among them remain more centric.

Wouldn't vote for Obama because of policies, but can't vote for Romney because of stupidity. Don't live in FL/OH/IO so it doesn't matter anyways!

I also voted for RP in the primary. Ironically, he is truly the most fiscal and social convservative there is. The only problem is he doesn't play the polical game, respond to lobbyists, corporations, etc so it was impossible for him to get anywhere. He was pretty much vilified by the mainsteam media. What a shame, he really could have fixed this shitstorm we have going on in our country.
