What were the games you picked up that day? Maybe there's a chance it was a different goodwill he went to. That is a heartbreaking story.

Dammit. Guessing one of the leeches around here low-balled this guy and walked away with it. I need that NHL, Spawn, and King of Monsters

A guy was selling 300+ NES games on Kijiji. He was two cities away, so a bit far for me to go as I do not drive, and apparently neither does he. He was selling the whole lot for $700 CAD, and it included a number of great games of high value. I estimated the value at being around $5-6k.

Unfortunately I was JUST getting back into collecting, so I was a bit worried about dropping $700 on a Kijiji trade when he asked me to send him the money via PayPal, and that he'd ship them to me.

Realistically I should have hopped on the damn train and got my ass out there for that kind of crazy deal. I felt like it was a scam so I ended up not going for it, but it still eats away at me a bit. This was about two months ago.

Honestly, while I understand the sting, you're probably better off.  As I have my games stored in large Rubbermaid style tubs due to having no space to display them, I know that your best case scenario (least to worry about) would have you trying to tote a 100-150lb tub from the guy's place, back to the train, etc.  If the guy didn't scam you, there's a reasonable possibility that you'd run into trouble with other people when transporting the lot back, especially if you had to travel through anywhere sketchy (not necessarily either city, but between the guy's house and the train station, etc.).

Need Stadium Events + Panesian titles, 6-in-1's, Menace Beach, Moon Ranger & Secret Scout to complete my licensed/unlicensed sets.

If you've got any of the above for sale, hit me up!

So when I was working on my Atari 2600 collection back in 2011, I was at one of my many local Goodwill stores (this one on occasion had some cheap 2600 games) and as I was looking, I came across a Magnavox Odyssey 2 with two controllers and all proper cords for $25. I did not get for I didn't know what it was at the time and a literal 2 days later I came across a video from Classic Game Room reviewing (and praising) the system and talking about its rarity. I immediately went back to that Goodwill to get it but it was already soldD: I am still kicking myself to this day.

Took a leap of faith on this Sonic the Hedgehog buy it now auction, I sent a best offer of $17.99 specifically asking for the item shown on the right which is shown with the hangtab and manual, I sent two separate messages stating this. The seller quickly accepted my offer and never replied back after that. I've been looking for a K-A 1996 variant of Sonic 1 for quite some time.

Today I received my item and it is neither of the copies shown, I got a hangtabless mismatched copy, incorrect style case with a not for resale 1991 case and retail copies of the 1991 game and 1991 manual, all in beat up condition. Meanwhile, a straightforward auction for a CIB 1996 K-A copy of this game ended a few days ago for only like $12 and I didn't go after it because I'd already done this auction. Damn it all!!!

I know the feeling, major suckage on the seller's part. I sometimes think people on eBay don't bother reading sometimes.

There was a millennium 2000 controller that showed up locally yesterday; I was en route to take a better look as the pictures were sub par and it was on hold for a local reseller. They told me he had first dibs due to the phone call and that even though I had cash in hand I would have to wait.

I'm mostly bummed out because that would have been an excellent addition to my collection, but instead the individual who bought it will be auctioning it off on a Facebook raffle group.

Bummer.

Wow...

I hope I get the chance to win raffle tickets to win my way to the main raffle. This just made me ROFL!

Local gamestore got in a copy of Ninja Five-O and posted online. Sale price was $85. I called right away and had them hold it for me since I was driving an hour one way, I explained how far away I was so they made an exception to hold it a little longer than they normally do. I made the drive out last night and it was gone. To try and not get livid, I rationalized that it would have only gone to a fellow collector so at least someone else had a good day.

Even though I was pissed with the store, I still bought a few things to try and salvage my trip.

I come on NA this morning and find a fellow NA user located in the city where the store was. He is selling a copy of Ninja Five-O for $160. God fucking dammit.

Ouch! Pretty messed up of them to not hold it for you. Thankfully when I have asked for stores to hold something for me, they do. I probably would have not bought anything if they did not hold the item for me.

Yeah I've definitely scorned stores in the past for not respecting my holds, but you know they never give a flying llamas bunghole in the long run - just another day in the trenches. Unfortunate to say I've learned to never expect anything from peeps.

I haven't any trouble with stores holding games for me in the past. I have had problems with 3 shitty members on NA, though.

-I had one NAer pretend he was a collector and wanted a really rare game that I found so I cut him a deal on it since he was a collector. As soon as he got it, he listed it on ebay for 3x what I sold it to him. Now I don't cut deals on here if I sell anything.

-I've had a local NAer backdoor me multiple times on craigslist/Facebook sales when I have a price and time/place setup. One fucking time I was sitting in a Starbucks parking lot for almost an hour waiting for the seller to show and he finally answered his phone to tell me that he sold it to someone who could meet him 30 minutes earlier than our meet time for a little bit more cash when he told that person when and how much I was buying it for. It was that same NA fucker. I missed out a few lots only for him to list stuff in his Finders Keepers and FS thread the next day or two. Now I hardly ever bother looking for deals locally.

-Now, I have to deal with a store screwing me over and this NA reseller asshat marking things up to make a quick buck when I've been looking for Ninja Five-O for years. I've come across Little Samson more in the wild than that game. Now, I lose faith in game stores and am reminded that there are people in it as profiteers, not as collectors.

I'm seriously understanding the hate NA gets. This place is cutthroat and when I start enjoying collecting again, I get reminded why people suck.  And, of course, can't call anyone out by name or I'll get punished for 'making it personal'.

I just need a break from here.  Maybe I'm just caught up in the heat of the moment from wasted time and seeing this dude mark that game up so much.  I'm sure he'll have plenty of apologists here.

I don't think you should have spoken up in his FS thread, as that's threadcrapping.

But if all you say is true, then I completely understand your frustration. Fuck that.

This weekend I had some time to kill so I was browsing the neighborhood app on my phone and came across a yard sale in one of the more affluent neighborhoods close to mine. The listing was a regular G-Sale listing but a few items caught my eye like an "Atari 2600 & various games, Nintendo & various games and misc computer games. I made the trip early morning, just a few hours after they started the sale. When I pulled up there were a few people browsing the sale so I thought to myself I am too late yet again. To my surprise there were 3 plastic bins full of NES and Atari items. As I pulled out the games I noticed they had Die Hard, Donkey Kong, Zelda and a few other common titles. I was super excited for the Die Hard as I still need it for my collection. I pull the dusty, dirty Die hard cart from the bin along with a few Atari carts and took it up to the lady and asked how much? "$5" she says. I smiled and said these games I picked are worth more than $5, i'll give her $20. She gave me a weird look and asked me to hang on for a second. She took the games inside (while people are in this ladies garage and drive way mind you) and came back out in a few minutes. She advised me that she looked on Ebay and wanted $100 for all 4 of my items. I told her that she was just going to sell me them for $5 but I offered her more to be polite. She proceeded to tell me that she figured if someone offers more for something it has to be worth a lot more than what they are offering so she decided to "look it up".
Now I am pissed off, I can't believe I made a situation worse by being a nice guy. I told her that the items I picked aren't worth $100 to me but my offer for $20 still stands. A guy on the other side of the garage looking in the bins then yells I'll give you $200 for everything! Sold she said with a smile! The man breaks out a wad of cash (must have been a dealer) and she hands him my picks.
I just walk away thinking what a dumba$$ I am for trying to be nice. 3 minutes later I am at the local convenience mart grabbing a soda to drown my sorrows and who pulls up but Mr. Dealer man, I look up but don't acknowledge him. As I am getting ready to pull out he yells out at me, I roll down the window and he said "that lady didn't know what she had" and I "need to learn how to garage sale???". I just said your probably right, I just worried about karma. He laughed and told me to hang on. He got into his minivan and tossed me a Millipede Atari cart. Free, he said. Sorry to steal your deal.

AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

No good deed goes unpunished.

And people wonder why it's so cutthroat. But yeah, need to keep your trap shut when it comes to game values if they already assigned a price.

Unexpected turn of events. As much as one might want to be polite, if a person says 5 bucks then by all means pay just the 5 bucks.

Smart lady, that's why you never offer more than what they are asking. I hate it when people advise otherwise to be "ethical". All you're doing is potentially screwing yourself over.

That other guy though, wow what an asshole.

This.  If your conscience is eating you up then you buy the game for the ask price first, and throw in extra money after the deal has taken place.  At that point if she wants to complain then you've already assumed ownership and there's nothing she can do about it.
