Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a flash cart for the SNES, and I'm on a bit of a budget, so I was curious about something. I've read that the Super UFO Pro 8 works with SuperFX chips if a SuperFX game is on top. I've also read that is not true. I've also read that it's only with the exact same chip (ex. StarFox 2 won't work with StarFox on top, but it will work with Doom or Stunt Race FX on top), and the possibilities go on lol. If anyone has this cart, would they be able to confirm one of these for sure please?
Thanks!

It's certainly the cheapest flash cart, but also the worst. You should save up some money and buy the Super Everdrive. That's the best option for you.

a Super Everdrive (w/o DSP-1) is $80 bucks plus shipping for board only (or $100 plus shipping for board and shell) from stoneagegamer, there's only a handful of really good games it doesn't play (Mega Man X2 and X3, Pilotwings, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World 2, Super Mario RPG, Kirbys Dream Land 3, Star Ocean, Star Fox 1/2 and Doom - full list of special chip games here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List... ) those top titles aside, you can't ask for much more out of a flash cart at that price point for SNES.

I have a Super UFO Pro 8, for such a low quality flash cart I'm rather pleased with it. I've been able to test games and even play through EarthBound. I'd never want a flash cart to replace my physical cartridges so the limitations of the Pro 8 fit my needs.

About the co-processor thing, I believe it's a lie. I've tried DSP this and Super FX that, nothing works. The cart slot on top is simply for dumping cartridges, like most copiers. The Super UFO Pro 8 is the newest in a series of copier devices.

Also, this is very important to know. The Super UFO Pro 8 only supports ONE active SRAM file at a time. So if you start a new game in EarthBound, then proceed to play Chrono Trigger, your EB save will be gone. When you're done playing a game, it's highly recommended to backup your save to the SD card. There's an option to "SRAM UFO to SD" in the Backup menu. You can also do the opposite when you want to resume playing.

Also, the Super UFO Pro 8's DRAM and SRAM are powered with cheapo China batteries and they run out of juice quickly. Again, more reason to backup your SRAM saves if you can't change the batteries. I'd do them on my cart, but I'm not sure what I should replace the batteries with.

Oh yeah, about the Super Everdrive. I've heard it loads very slowly, probably as slowly as the Super UFO Pro 8. Everyone recommends the SD2SNES, it can run the most games. Unfortunately it's hard to find because they sell out so fast.

I use Super UFO 8 the old version, 50 bucks and It hasn't given me any problems at all, you only need to read instructions and spend some time to understand how to use it. And you got yourself a working flash cart.

Which version pichi? black or white? I have a black one. Every single seller of it had ridiculous $30 shipping... Fuck em. So a $50 flash cart became an $80 one. It was still "worth it" I guess... I've gotten a lot of use out of it.

Hmm, Amazon has the Super UFO Pro 8 for ~ $50 shipped: http://www.amazon.com/Saves-Backu...

That's too bad the coprocessor thing doesn't work well (and the saving issue either, thanks for the heads up on that!). If it did, it'd be one of the better flash carts!

I did some more digging, and infiniteneslives is releasing a reprogrammable flash board that can support up to 128Mbits, as well as Hi/LoROM: http://www.infiniteneslives.com/a... It still needs to be set up with his reader/writer, but that's only ~$25, so I think I'll go with this option. It'll end up being around $60 shipped, and I know the guy does quality work, so I'll give that a go. Looks like it can only do one game at a time (which is totally fine with me), but the extra memory should put its compatibility ahead of the Everdrive. Thanks for all the input guys!

That "flash cart" you linked to looks more like a reproduction board. As in, you put one game on it, forever, like a regular SNES repro cart. It just doesn't require an official cartridge. Pair that board up with Retro Quest's new cartridge shells and you'd have a completely new cartridge.

You know I forgot to mention the ROM size thing. The Super UFO Pro 8 (black version at least) only supports 32Mbit. Hi/Lo ROM both work fine.

I guess yeah it's not the right flash cart for someone looking for an alternative to cart collecting, but it does the bare basics pretty well. It can still play a lot of SNES games.

It is rewritable with that kazoo device he sells as well. Supposedly it can even play Star Ocean as well.

Hi, guys! I found on Amazon Ufo pro 8. Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...

Is it Super Ufo Pro 8? Surely yes. So, I could record on it SNES games from my computer? On Amazon is not a word about it.
Plese reply.

Yes that is the Super UFO Pro 8. It can play any regular HiROM / LoROM SNES games, it doesn't support any co-processors. It is capable of dumping pretty much any game.

I have to say, in the months I've had mine, I absolutely love it. The dumping feature has come in handy many, many times for me. To me, that makes it more useful than any other SNES flash cart. I wish such a "copier flash cartridge" existed for NES and Genesis.

Nope. Super UFO Pro 8 doesn't support co-processors. If you want that kind of action on your SNES, pony up the cash for a SD2SNES or just buy Doom.

It doesn't come with a SD card. Just format your separate SD card FAT32 and it'll work fine.

Supper UFO 8 abbreviates file names to. 8.3 which really kills it for me. Do you know how many SNES games start with Super? Over 70. Very hard to find the right rom.

You have to use short filenames. Instead of EarthBound, use EarthB. Or instead of Super Mario World, use SMWorld, or SMW.

I have one of these and i predominately use it to move my save games from emulator to cart and from cart to emulator. This way i can archive my game saves from RPG's and such without worrying about losing them due to battery loss as well as transfer the saves to my PSP emulator if i go mobile and then put it right back to the cart when i want to play on original hardware.
