Wow, rude much? The guy finds a prototype the community's been searching for for years, says he's not only going to release the ROM freely for us to explore and dissect as we see fit, but also is working on a reworked version of the game that will make the game more playable and enjoyable to play as a game rather than a period piece, and you come in here and say "Yeah, it's cool and all, but wah wah you're altering the ROM wah wha not gonna play it just wanted to let you know". I bet the anti-IGAS, Resident Evil 1.5 pure build pyschos would welcome you with open arms. Just... wow.
If you really want an unfinished, buggy proto repro, I'm sure you could just download the ROM once it's released and have someone make a repro of that, complete with Famicom case. Was it really necessary to come in here and try to rain on the parade?
I, for one, will be looking forward to the repro of the revamped version of this game, a game I'll actually be able to play and enjoy rather than be frustrated at a glitchy and unfinished experience with.
Also, sorry if I came on a bit strongly there, but it just peeves me off to no end that Arasoi and whoever he's working with to make this happen come along to give the community more than just a release, and then you come in and try to say their work isn't worth anything. I'm sure you're nice and all, but... I just can't agree with your sentiment.
To begin, I would just like to say a few words of wisdom: Piss off! I do not see anything particularly rude in my earlier post, and I am entitled to have and express my opinion just as you are entitled to do the same. Nothing rude about expressing my thoughts and opinions. I didn't call the original poster a "stupid f***" or something like that, I just told him that since the game is a prototype of a game that was released in the USA, but unreleased in Japan, that an unaltered Famicom release seemed much more fitting.
Also, cut the bullshit "wah wah" talk. You don't know who I am, it is foolish to make such ignorant assumptions based off of one post. Many people do want the games for what they were, period pieces. As a few other members in this thread had posted, they couldn't even figure out the significance of this game, since it had a USA release. And that leads to my point, which you seemed to have missed somewhat when analyzing my previous post for rude tones. Releasing this on the NES (again) is like polishing up the Duck Tales proto with the major changes, or the Virus (Dr. Mario) proto, or any other prototypes of NES games that were released in the USA. It is a nice gesture, but at the end of the day, a game that WAS released in the USA is being released (AGAIN) in the USA, albeit with some minor changes, upgrades, and the like. So while the OP's efforts can be appreciated, the end result will be another release of an already-released game, although with some changes. A good product for the curious, and the repro collectors, but A LOT of the significance of this release is lost, simply because the game WAS ALREADY RELEASED on the NES.
On the other hand, the Famicom never received a release of this game, aside from an unofficial port of the NES version, brought to the Famicom by some pirates. And here we have the true Famicom version of the game, complete with Japanese text, etc. And that is partly why this game is so significant, because it went UNRELEASED on Famicom, but was released in the west...and was developed by Japanese company, iirc. Something that very seldom happens. So one of the things at the heart of why this game is important is quickly lost, when the game is being released on NES format and not Famicom format. On NES format, it will be akin to a proto of another released game, with some changes. On Famicom format, we are talking a totally unreleased game, that was meant for that market. That is my point.
