April 2016 (Week 3)

L@@K RAREZZ OMG!!1!  This week is all about rare or desirable pickups.  Most of these came from the fine gents here on Nintendoage and some online.  Many of these you'd be hard pressed to find in your local gamestore.  Not all are rare, some like Last Story or Xenoblade Chronicles are fairly easy to come by, but have held their value well.  I have a list of about 80 of my most wanted Wii games.  These are games that are either desirable or rare.  I've check about 30+ games off that list.  A few like Fritz Chess and My Horse and Me: Riding for the Gold have already been mentioned.  Here are some that I haven't spoken about yet.

Wii Game Count:  33 Games (#492 - 516)
Bought From:  Online and Nintendoage

Rare or desirables

American Mensa Academy – Current copies on ebay:  0.  Educational type game, super low productions numbers.  This is a top tier pain in the ass to find.

Aqua Panic – Current copies on ebay:  3. I heard this one was pretty fun.  Also hard to come by and is rising in price.

Castle of Shikigami III – Current copies on ebay:  7.  A Shmup on Wii, say what?  Here it is and it's somewhat hard to come by.  This could jump in value like Ikaruga for Gamecube.

Classic British Motor Racing – Current copies on ebay:  7.  Somewhat rare, but still cheap racing game.

Crazy Machines – Current copies on ebay:  3.  You wouldn't know by the low price, but this can be a hard one to find.

Disney Violetta – Current copies on ebay:  1.  This one is odd, I don't think it ever received a proper release.  It seems like one distributor has these on amazon. Once they are gone they might be fairly hard to come by.

El Chavo – Current copies on ebay:  5. Like Disney Violetta, this is a Mexican released game (still NTSC).  Probably a very hard one to find out in the wild.

Family Game Night Fun Pack – Current copies on ebay:  14.  Although not super rare, it seems to hold its value quite well.

Fishing Resort – Current copies on ebay:  9.  While the cover looks generic this is a XSeed released game.  As mentioned before XSeed normally brings over solid stuff.  This one has been rising in value.

F1 2009 – Current copies on ebay:  15.  When I picked this up a couple months ago, only a couple copies were on ebay.  Looks like more have turned up.  Still one that holds its value and is hard to come by.

Free Funning – Current copies on ebay:  6.  Not quite Mirrors Edge.  Fairly hard to find.

Fragile Dreams – Current copies on ebay:  12.  Another Xseed.  Quality title that holds its value.

Last Story – Current copies on ebay:  20+.  This was fairly rare until Gamestop reprinted.  Still hard to find for cheap.

Mini Golf Resort – Current copies on ebay:  7.  Looks super generic, I have no idea why this has a high value.  Low production/sales is my guess.

One Piece: UA – Current copies on ebay:  20+.  Another one that Gamestop killed the rarity on with a reprint.

Opoona – Current copies on ebay:  7.  Looks fun, hard to come by.

Oregon Trail – Current copies on ebay:  7.  Who doesn't love Oregon Trail, not sure if this can compare to the Apple II version.  Oddly it's one of the more pricey titles for the system.

Pandoras Tower – Current copies on ebay:  20+.  Xseed.  Not rare, but is likely to hold its value.

Shiren The Wanderer – Current copies on ebay:  12.  Same as above, holds its value well.

Smiley World – Current copies on ebay:  2.  I'm shaking my fist at you "Zoo".  They always have the most generic looking games.  This one is fairly rare.

SNK Arcade Classic – Current copies on ebay:  5.  Who doesn't love arcade classics?  Can be hard to find.

Victorious Boxers Rev – Current copies on ebay:  7.  Xseed again.

Xenoblade Chronicles – Current copies on ebay:  20+.  Another no longer rare title thanks to Gamestop.  Still a good one to add to any Wii collection.

Maximum Family Racing Set:

"Maximum Family Racing 9" -  I saved my favorite Set for Last.  These nine generic looking racing games were all released by the publisher Maximum Family Games. Some are more common than others, but many of these are quite rare. Some of the hardest to find for the system. I can see this becoming a very hard set to complete in the future for Wii collectors. Also, the cover art for Rally Racer looks like a Windows 95 screensaver. Nobody wants that.

That's it for now.  I still have a bunch more hard to find games that I'll list later one.  I just need to pick them up myself.  A few really odd ball ones, I'll do a part II on those sometime in the future.

I saw Crash Car Racer at GameStop for $4, but they didn't have the disc in the store. He said that the case was out on the shelf by "mistake." No other stores had it and he couldn't get it online.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Castle of Shikigami III seems extremely common around my area. Multiple copies at a number of local spots. I'll take a look for some of these other ones that I haven't really heard of.

I assume you got that ebay auction that was going a few weeks ago with all the Maximum games?

American Mensa Academy is the bane of my existence! Also, Super Truck Racer and Super Karts are killing me trying to find them.
Nonetheless, great stuff though. That should take a decent amount of weight off your shoulders for the full Wii set.

Hoping to come across Free Running at Gamestop as it's $1.99 there vs $30 online.
And if you haven't played Opoona, I think it's great! It's a shame that it had such a small print run because it's a really charming little game. So is Fishing Resort.

Are you talking about the person who had a dozen or so Wii auctions, most with 10-20 game lots and each lot had a bunch of harder to find titles?  If so, then yeah, I was able to pick up one of the lots that had a few Maximum games in it.  I bid on a bunch of others but was outbid at the last second everytime.  It's okay though, the one I did get was pretty good.  Much cheaper then buying the games by themselves.  That guy had a ton of quality extras.

Nice haul, yet again! I really want that SNK Arcade Classics. Been on my radar, just trying to be patient and not buy it for like $50 online if I can avoid it. I'm not going for a complete set or anything; that title just seems really worthwhile. I love arcade collections.

Ha, I figured in some ways Nitus Dog football perfectly encapsulates why I love the Wii. It's a game that has no right existing, yet here it is. You have to wonder how this got made. What was Jerry Rice thinking, how about the programmers and publishers? It's just insane and makes me laugh whenever I think about it. Don't get me wrong though I'm not dogging (bad pun) on the game. From what I heard it's the best football game for the system.

The one I saw is where the guy was selling like 9-10 of the Maximum games and it ended up selling for over $200. I almost bit but a lot of them were missing manuals and if I'm going to spend that much money I'd rather get complete copies.

Yep, I know the one you are talking about.  I put a bid on that one, but it went way higher then I cared to go.  He had another one that had a few good titles in it that no one bid on.  Some of the games weren't complete, but most of ones I was really interested in were.  I guess the guys aunt was selling the games for him on her ebay account.  She didn't seem to know much about any of them.  Really solid lots though.

I stopped by a pawn on my Wii game hunt, to my surprise I saw this on the case. This isn't a special rare Wii system signed by Miyamoto or anything. Just your standard Wii, the black version is a bit harder to find then white, but not by much.

The crazy thing is there's a Pawn Shop a couple miles down the road that sells the exact same thing for $35.

There are 2 different black Wii systems, one that plays Gamecube games, and one that doesn't.

The one in your pic is the one that doesn't have Gamecube compatibility. Those are a little more common that the ones that can play Gamecube games. They look identical, but a way to tell is that if a Wii sits horizontally and has all the words/logos on the front part ("Power","reset", Eject", "Wii") reading from left to right, then it's not compatible. The ones that have the vertical stand that has all the words reading from left to right while it's standing vertical, then you got one that plays the Gamecube stuff.

Of course, knowing all that doesn't justify the price, as many people don't kow what to look for, so the price is basically the same. But, if you're out looking for different systems to collect, it's something to keep in mind if you're going for a full Wii system set.

I'd suggest grabbing a copy of National Geographic Challenge if you haven't yet, an oddly rare title that is still cheap to find.

Thanks for the heads up.  I actually just picked that one up the other day.  It's actually suprising how many odd rare games there are for Wii.  I've been tracking them as I find them.  So far I know of nearly 50 Wii games that have five or less copies currently on ebay.  National Geographic Challenge is one of them.  I seem to come across more each day.  Crazy Wii library.

April 2016 (Week 4)

This week is a bit different. Nothing too crazy, just thought I'd print out a few covers for my sleeve only games. I'm a guy who likes nice uniform games on my shelf. Sleeve only games like Zelda's Crossbow mess that up. Thankfully there is an awesome site called thecoverproject.net. This place is great for all things covers. Want NES cover art for custom cases? They have them all in high res! Really an awesome resource.

The Netflix disc is funny. As far I know it's the only Wii disc that isn't a game. It's utterly useless to everyone now as you can download the Wii app directly to your system. I think it's kind of cool though. As for rarity there are four or five on ebay right now which isn't a lot so I'd say it's rare-ish. Price wise it goes for next to nothing.

I was about to say I know where a couple sealed copies of Jerry Rice are, and I still do, but he listed them on eBay. I think they were $15-20 in his store.

Yeah, that seems to be about the going rate for the game.  Around $20-$25ish.  Seems like a farily low production run though, so not crazy hard to find now, but who knows in the future.
