Just found out that Riki (developer of the 8-Bit Music Power Famicom Albums, and Kira Kira Star Night DX) is going to releasing a new Homebrew game for the Famicom called Astro Ninja Man (hopefully) on March 11th 2018.

here is a quote (translated) from the Riki himself about the development (via his website):
During the exhibition for 5 months, we will show off the development status at the venue of Kawaguchi! We will do our best to complete the game by March 11, 2018 at the end of the holding period! I will try to start the music when the game approaches completion to a certain extent. The music is currently a diversion of past works. I will show the latest versions of the game at Kawaguchi once a month! Check the website as we will update this page too! I began development without any sponsorship or funding. I want development costs! What should I do?

Based on his prior games, I would guess that they are getting a full retail release via Columbus Circle (meaning a full Japanese release across the nation), so it probably will be available on Amazon.jp or PlayAsia around the expected release date.

Here is a video of the game (Note that the music is placeholder as he hasn't made any for the game yet):

EDIT: Here is the game's second trailer (Still placeholder music):

Here are two early screenshots of the game via Riki's website as well:

EDIT: Here are two new screenshots from the game (via Bitsummit Page):

Just thought I'd share this with the brewery since I thought it looked kind of cool. And Riki also doesn't speak any English really too, so why not!
Here is his website if you want to see more: http://riki2riki.com/html/8astro.html or his Twitter for developments as they happen (all Japanese): https://twitter.com/riki2riki

Graphics look gorgeous. I wonder if scanline limitations are disabled for that video or if the characters (and their shots) are background tiles...

Quite a lot of Sprites in that game! I don't think I can put that many in my game, even with my new efficient routine (although they most likely used a simpler routine since that game doesn't require one this complex). Really impressive

I tried to reach out to Riki about the sprite questions, but my Japanese is pretty rusty, and I'm not sure if he will actually get back to me -- but worth a try nonetheless.

From what I can see, the characters are background tiles and the rest is sprites
The scrolling stars scroll down at 2 different speeds, which means there will be a maximum amount of 2 stars on the same scanline providing their placement is one star every 8 pixels (or rather 16 as I'm 99% sure this game uses 8x16 sprites). As for the characters' shots, they are vertical so the scanline limitations won't be too bad, plus I even see some flickering at some point in the video. The only background objects are the characters and the bosses.
As for the flickering, I wager there will be some, although it will come from the max sprites per scanline rather than the characters requiring to draw more than 64 sprites per scanline.

Hope this answered your question and I hope I didn't sound too nerdy

That'd make sense. With 8x16 sprites, those vertical columns of sprites wouldn't take that many to do.

Super interesting for sure. Now that you have mentioned it (and I'm actively looking), I can see the flickering at a couple point in the video. It's pretty awesome that you are able to figure out so much just by looking.

Looks nice. Yet another 3.3V IC Cartridge that might have problems with the original Famicom. XD

This looks pretty neat! I'd probably be interested in picking up a copy if/when it comes out at retail.

New trailer for the game was posted by Riki today. They've been super quiet about this game online, but they have had public showings in Japan for the majority of the year.

This trailer coincides with Bitsummit this weekend, and they'll have a playable demo there too.

The original idea was for them to release it when their art showcase had finished (March 11th 2018), but one day they removed that date without notice.
The website just say in developement for 2018 now.
