Color Dreams games are often considered "awful", but I've actually enjoyed just about every one of them.  I'm just curious to see if there's anyone else here who has given them a chance and played through them. Also, I've beaten these games many times before (as well as a few other people), so for the sake of this list I'm only counting the first playthroughs.

Too bad I can't select all the games I've beaten: Bible Adventures, Captain Comic, and Robodemons. Those are the three ColorDreams carts I own. I have a strange fondness for Robodemons, I beat it once every couple of months. It's a really fun - and extremely flawed - game. Nothing beats that title screen: *dong* *dong* dong* *dong* ... "Rhbbrdmuhnz"

Sweet! I like the update. Looking forward to see who's completed what ColorDreams games. To be perfectly honest, this thread makes me wanna go buy a couple. Lol. Hopefully I'll find some when I go on the hunt later this week. When I think of ColorDreams, I don't really imagine there being as many games as this list indicates. I'm pretty shocked!

But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Captain Comic and Master Chu & Drunkard Hu. I'm a big fan of Captain Comic, it's one of my favorite offbeat platformers on the NES.

So are any of these games objectively good or worth playing. I own a "bunch" (pun intended) and was wondering what I should start out with.

I've only played a few Color Dream games, but for me the one I love the most is and will always be Baby Boomer, It was a childhood favorite I grew up playing with my brother, and I had to hunt it  down CIB.

While none of them are spectacular titles, there are definitely a few that are good fun to play despite their flaws.  I can say that many of them reuse game engines, so if you don't like Operation Secret Storm, you probably won't like Secret Scout, Challenge of the Dragon, etc; if you don't like Crystal Mines, then Exodus won't be worthwhile either, etc.

Is there truly any way of objectively measuring something being "good" or "worth playing"? (This is mainly rhetorical, lol) Sure, there's something in common with every great game, but there's still a level of subjectivity. In my opinion, they're all worth playing for the novelty. They're all so quirky and bizarre in their own ways. Even games that try to be serious or not-so-weird like the Bible games are all so messed up. The bad controls are for a good laugh. So it really depends on what you want out of the experience. Do you want a game with tight controls, cool graphics, and great gameplay? Then none of these will be for you most likely (though from what I've seen, Spiritual Warfare doesn't seem too bad). If you want an experience... you'll definitely get one with a lot of these games.

I would recommend Robodemons.

I'd say probably start with Captain Comic (the most polished in controls). Good game to start with since the rest I'll admit have "Crisco Controls" as I call them, haha.  Though they take a bit getting used to, they are still very fun, and what they lack in controls, they make up for in style/quirkiness and fun!

Then (in no particular order):
  • Challenge of the Dragon - probably the best "kung-fu" engine game
  • Menace Beach - very fun and quirky platformer, classic Color Dreams
  • Robodemons - combines horizontal shooter and action platforming elements using a boomerang. Cool game centered around the Divine Comedy
  • King of Kings - Solid game, has some nice variety in stages, kinda like SMB2 a bit
  • Happy Camper - classic Color Dreams style and charm, interesting ideas in this one
  • Escape from Atlantis - very unique game, though was never released.  I actually released a CIB of it last year.
  • Bible Buffet - very fun boardgame like candyland, I play this A LOT with friends, probably one of the best multiplayer games of that genre for NES.

Yes.  The game was released by NGD but the ROM was never released publicly.  I would assume that you could find the ROM online from someone who dumped one of the repros.

Hey, put me down for Metal Fighter. Just knocked it off, it's actually kind of a fun little shooter.

Mission Cobra is actually pretty decent, I haven't beaten it but I can usually last longer on fuel than in games like 1943.

Castle of Deceit. F-ing hard as hell since the collision detection is horrid! But I do like the game though if it was polished a little more it would have been a really great unlicensed game.

oh and Robodemons!
