You know what we need? SMB3 with a save hack Unless it already exists (not Mario Adventure, vanilla SMB3)

Has anyone finally hacked SMB3 to support a save feature? I know there's Mario All-Stars, but having a save feature would make the original SMB3 way better. It's a pretty long haul for a single sitting.

Who wouldn't play the SNES version instead? It's probably not too hard, you'd need maybe 16 or so bytes, plus inventory, depending on how they programmed it. I dunno, there should be a RAM map, you can work on it later. It'd be pretty easy to add as long as there's program room, and you rigged the 8KB of WRAM to be 16KB/32KB.

Supposedly, the reason why the Flute exists in SMB3 is so that it would be a cheap alternative to any form of progress tracking. Not to mention that otherwise, this game would be beat much sooner than what they intended. That or Nintendo was just really cheap.

What's insulting is how Kirby's Adventure has this, but it only keeps track of two variables. What stage you are on, and what stages you unlocked. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have made one, but it's limited in various ways and I protracted its realese.
Anyway, 5 days ago, someone else released this:

A fully featured hack of SMB3 to support saves....
Hmm...This is a warning to me that I really need to polish and release my item slot hack before someone makes another one....

From my hacking notes that I made few months ago, Kirby adventure uses 0x4C (76 in decimal) bytes for every save slot(I wasn't looking into it too much). Also Kirby adventure also keeps track of what secrets you have found in game and which secret levels are unlocked.
