Found this for $8 at a local thrift store today, haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but it's the first Snes Prototype I've found and it's pretty damn cool. Here are the pics, took me a while cause my camera is literally a POS and I need a new one. I believe it's A Super Game Boy prototype since it has the slot where a gameboy game would go and the board has SGB1-EVA2 stamped on it. Anyone else on here have a Proto like this one?

Looks like someone pulled the sticker off of the EEPROM, I plan on taking care of that in a few minutes. What do you guys suggest to cover it with.

Just plugged it in and it works like a champ. Definitely a Super Gameboy prototype and it was quite upset when I didn't plug a gameboy game into it, so I dug out Tetris and played for a bit. Doesn't seem to have any obvious differences in gameplay than any normal Super Gameboy, but I didn't play it for too long. I am glad it works though.

Well now that's impressive, maybe I'm being too literal or guessing but SGB1-EVA2 (perhaps evaluation 2 copy maybe what it means.) If that is a right guess it could be a final/near final release for evaluation approval into production. As you said Tetris works, guess the best thing left is to compare a release version against it for all the menus, color choices, drawing in the border tools, and the rest to look for oddities.

I was pretty much stumped on the EVA2 part, but that does sound pretty good and would definitely make sense. I will do more a more thorough comparison when I get some time...probably sometime this weekend.

I used to work for Midway for 2 years in 2001 and 2002 and we'd stamp similar writing with a marker on test builds for evaluation and what not so I've seen weird lingo a bit over time and it just hit me seeing that when you said that Tetris worked and first appearances was like things were normal on the surface without digging deeper into things. In the case of my stuff it was games, so it was ink, but with this you need to make production boards to test out the hardware first at a basic level, then something more official to being a legit sellable copy. So this very well could be a 2nd run evaluation board where they're seeing if everything is kosher with it doing games to the stuff(gb games) popped into it jive with the on board software before putting it into production.

EV is typically Engineering Validation or Verification. So its a test to make sure it would actually work. Next would be DV for Developer, which is (hopefully) the final production version. Seen those codes lots on computer hardware but not video game stuff before.

Can you post a pict of the board that is clear enough to read the numbers on the chips? Many of the ones I can see have different numbers than a production board which is cool.

That's awesome! Maybe you should consider backing up the EPROM too, before it bitrots and you only have a paperweight.

Nice item, unique items like this seem to pop up more frequently in your neck of the woods. Wish Nintendo's US branch was based in Minneapolis!
