Ladies and gentlemen, I want to talk about an absolutely killer and great uncommon game that has escaped almost everyone's radar.  AVGN and the top youtubers haven't talked about(thank goodness).  And in general, this game has gone mostly unnoticed.   We always talk about hidden gems and everyone mentions the same old tired titles, but never this one.

The game I'm talking about is: Isolated Warrior

I first became aware of this game about 3 years ago when I played it at a buddy's place.  Fell in love with it then, totally forgot the name, and went about my life as usual.

Then when S.C.A.T shot up in price, it must've triggered it in my mind.  I actually thought it was S.C.A.T at first, but looking at the gameplay didn't look familiar, and I made it a mission to track down a copy.  Fast forward to this Christmas when I snagged a copy locally, been playing it ever since and LET ME TELL YOU, THIS GAME IS AWESOME!

You want a great NES game, Isolated Warrior has it all:
  • Amazing sound track - check!
  • Cool Ninja Gaiden-like cutscenes - Yep, this game has 'em!
  • Fast intense action that's better than S.C.A.T. - hell yes!
  • Massive Contra-like end bosses that look badass - Oh definitely!
  • Great weapons and sick level designs - For sure!

I mean check out these two bosses from the game.  The bosses are so weird and freakin badass.  It totally reminds me of Contra and I just love it!  And what's great is that you have awesome chiptunes to listen to as you kill and destroy all those baddies!

I highly suggest everyone pick up and play this game.  It's definitely an uncommon title and you don't want to miss out if it ever shoots up in price which I anticipate will happen soon.  It's a travesty this game hasn't gotten more attention, and in my opinion, this game is much better overall than S.C.A.T, and we both know how much S.C.A.T shot up in price recently.  And for how uncommon and great it is, it's the biggest current NES fluke that has gone unnoticed.  I'm telling you guys, you will love this game. I guarantee it!

Last Starfighter is another fantastic one that is never talked about. Heads up though it is harder than antartic nipples.

I love contra so I'm interested in reading about this, thanks OP. Anybody else that has played it want to chime in?

WTB Cdn sealed black boxes, sealed Cdn first party titles.    I.e. the "mattel" Cdn boxes with both french and english.   Mainly black boxes, zelda, link, and tyson, but let me know what you have.    I am interested in anything I don't already have!

Sorry but no idea, I have absolutely zero knowledge on C64 other than it looks cool.

Never said it was a Contra clone.  I said the bosses reminded me of the ones from Contra.  The bosses in Isolated Warrior like the ones in Contra are badass-big-weird-crazy-makes-no-sense monsters.

And the viewpoint is part of the charm of the game.  It seriously takes 2 seconds to get used to.  If your major gripe is the viewpoint, then you were never meant to play the game anyway.

This game is balls to the wall excitement and fun.  I hadn't experienced something similar on the NES for a long time, and re-discovering Isolated Warrior was refreshing for me.

I promise you guys.  If you love Contra, Super C, Contra Hard Corps, shmups, S.C.A.T, Wild Guns(snes), you will LOVE this game.  I guarantee it.

It's a travesty this game has gotten the appreciation and love it deserves.

For what I played it's a fun shooter type game. Never played it long enough to make it to either of those bosses.

I think polar bear is doing an experiment to see if he can artificially manipulate the price.

Eh, it's ok, I wouldn't call it a hidden gem. I played it back in the day a ton, had multiple copies in and out of my hand the past few years and have popped them in to play just to make sure I didn't want to keep it. I never did and just sold the copies on. It's decent but I think we've run out of all of the unknown greats and are willing to call anything above mediocre that isn't talked about a gem.

I played this game for our weekly NES show we do and was able to do a perfect no death run after some serious practice time put in. Love this game!

Oh wow, same company produced Recca and Isolated Warrior.  No wonder this game is legit!
