Adventure Island II is beaten. (No warps)

What a struggle this was! I gotta say, the difficulty in trying to beat this game is criminally underrated (Only worth 4 here, and 3.34/5 on gfaqs for difficulty)... The first few worlds are basically a breeze, but the later worlds is where things get a lil rough, and world 8 is just an absolute gauntlet. 1HK gives you no room for error when the going gets tough, and once you lose all your inventory of hammers & dinos you're done for - it pretty much negates the fact that you get unlimited continues. Add to that if you die at a boss, you have to play 2-3 additional stages just to get back to fight him!

I'd be curious to hear what others who have beaten this game think of it!

It's an easy game to just finish, but super annoying with a challenge like this. First of all, it takes way too long to just get one decent attempt going.

Nice, congrats! Considering how long this game is to do a warpless run, that's quite impressive. Now you gotta go for a deathless, warpless, P-wingless, cloudless run!

Are there any major differences between the NTSC and famicom versions?

In the Famicom version, you immediately become small Mario anytime you get hit. So you get an extra hit in the US version if you're Raccoon Mario or Fire Mario or whatever. Which makes everything quite a bit safer.

I've been meaning to write up my thoughts on SMB3 vs SMW, so I'll try to get around to that soon.

It starts getting pretty hard at the end of world 7. I beat it before years ago, but I was trying again earlier this year and that's where I game overed. Given that the game is short and a lot of fun to play, a 4 rating makes sense (it looks like it'll increase next year to 5). After all, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Battletoads are 2s. I've said it before, but it seems like a big part of the ratings can be attributed to the game's rarity. AI2 is more commonly found than AI3. They're only 1 point different in rarity according to NA, which is a bit surprising to me.

I've only beaten 2, so I'd like to beat 1 & 3 at some point. Can't forget about 4 either - I just got a cart of the Famicom version which I'm excited about.

I've been too busy for much of this lately, but I'm 3/5ths of the way through Magic of Scheherazade, so I'm hoping I can finish that by the end of the weekend. But it is really great to have some activity in here, especially from new folks and old friends (hi, gnarblast!).

Correct my math if I'm wrong, scary, but Kiwi Kraze falling may have just handed me the Taito crown.

Beat Hoops tonight. After a bit of messing around with the different characters I found a team that could cheese the computer pretty well. I went with Legs and Zap. Legs is super fast and was able to steal the ball very easily and Zap barely ever missed a shot when made from inside the key. By selecting W-Out (who ever gets a basket gets first possession of the ball for the next round) I was able to score a lot of baskets consecutively. The coolest part of the game was the ending credits though. They had a silly 80s movie style ending caption for each of the players to show where they ended up in life after playing basketball on the streets. Pretty neat.

In 2016 we beat all the licensed/unlicensed/pal games in one year, so it's kind of hard to top that. Also, a lot of the unlicensed stuff is just terrible to play or beat, especially some of the Action 52 games (I'm not sure anyone wants to do those again). The last two years I tried adding some Famicom games instead, but that wasn't too popular. This year, just trying to keep it simple since we didn't even beat all the licensed games in 2017-18.

edit: I guess it doesn't have unlicensed win conditions.

I think most are pretty straightforward. Most of the Action 52 games either crash or loop.

It took TMR over 24 hours to beat Tetris 2. That puts it up there with Bump n Jump and Qbert. Although TMR isn't the greatest at puzzle games so I don't know how long it would take most players.

I remember watching his stream on normal Tetris and he was godawful at it. It seems like he just ended up beating it by enough attempts.
