I think I never dared looking at how the genre icons were given that year cause it was definitely not what was planned.
The genre icons 1 were supposed to be for the player who got the most points in the genre, period. Even if someone already won a Block and earned his tournament spot, he could still play to win genre icons 1. So, when we compiled the points, we did one for the block (excluding player who already won a Block), and another one for the genre (with players who already won a Block).
The genre icons 1 winners were (or were supposed to be, cause I see rdrunner didn't get the shooter icon 1) :
Platformer : guillavoie
Sports : guillavoie
Arcade : 2legit28bit
Shooter : rdrunner
Beat Em Up : rdrunner
Puzzle : rdrunner
If a player won a genre, he was earning a tournament spot. But, since we knew some Block winners would win genre icons (all winners were actually Block winners, lol), there were genre winner icons 2 made for those earning a tournament spot through their performance in a genre.
The principle was that the player with the best result in a genre (behind players that already earned a tournament spot) would get the icon to underline their entry in the tournament.
Now, I don't know what happened in the distribution, but what I see here is completely off with what it should have been (I don,t blame anyone, the formula was a bit complicated to apply). In term of titles, I'd say that the 6(3) winners above are what represent it.
