Anyone snag this? Thoughts so far?

I'm enjoying the hell out of this. Much more than the first. Anyone else playing? How far have you gotten so far and how are you liking it?

Definitely tempts me to buy a Switch.

Makes me a bit nostalgic for the days of elementary school when my friends and I would fill notebooks with hand drawn DQ-style blocky towns and dungeons.

I really liked the first, this one seems more linear to me. My biggest complaint is the townspeople talk WAY too much and the talk button is the same as opening chests/changing items/other stuff. So not only do they talk too much the first time around, I'm often inadvertently triggering them to blather on a 2nd time.

I finished the first farming island last night. The game is a lot of fun, but I'm still putting the 1st ahead at this point. I don't see myself playing through this one multiple times like I did the first. Who know though, my opinion could change the more I play.

Yeah, there's definitely WAAAAY more talking, but I'm skipping through most of it. I'm on island 3 (though it's the second island like the first one you have to quest on), but you'll see it begin to open up more and more.

Nathan - play the first one for nostalgia. You legit rebuild towns from DW1

So what kind of game is this?  I guess I had the impression it was sort of a mish-mash of DQ, Minecraft, and maybe Harvest Moon.

Is combat turn-based in traditional DQ style?

Neat.

So does Hawksness stay in ruins?  Or do you manage to save it?

The game is story driven and you unlock new building abilities as you play.  So at the start you can build whatever you want, but what you have the ability to make is very limited.  There are many specific things you are required to build in order to advance the story.

The combat is much more like an original Zelda.  You run up to enemies on screen and swing your sword at them.

DQ Builders 1 is also on the switch. Now you have 3 reasons: DQ Builders 1, DQ Builders 2, Links Awakening

You rebuild Cantlin, Kol, Rimuldar, and Tantegal Castle. It's action rpg for combat, but that's really not the main focus of the game. In Builders 1, you don't gain levels for your character, just life, weapons, and armor. In Terra Incognito, you basically have an open world to build whatever you want, and the portals bring you to combat zones / other lands to collect materials and fight.

So this is more like the version of Alefgard that exists in Dragon Warrior 2?  (i.e. Breconnary is combined with Tantagel and Hawksness is gone?)

You only travel to these 4 lands, so things all the other towns you mentioned don't exist (or at least aren't in the game). I would just snag a demo, watch a let's play, or something just to get a feel for it. This is more like what the world of Alefgard had become after the world was destroyed - and you have to rebuild it. If you had a PS4, I'd let you borrow my copy to try out lol

Sort of.  The story is what would have happened if the hero in Dragon Warrior 1 would have taken the Dragonlords offer to join forces at the end.  So it's in the future like DW2, but the bad guys won in DW1.

Neat idea!

And I gather than DQ Builders 2 references Malroth, so is somehow tied to classic Dragon Warrior 2?

Ha! That's where I got to as well.

And Nathan - exactly right about Malroth. They even let you know that the enemy has befriended the builder early on, so it's really neat on how the story has played out so far (as you start off being a prisoner).

Nope. I prefer single player so other players don't screw me up

From what I understand the multiplayer is only on the Isle of Awakening and those fetch items explorers islands.  I did my first of those last night and definetly wouldn't have minded someone else there with me tracking down some of that junk.

I'm actually way more interested in it now that I see you guys getting so much out of the game without even touching the multiplayer.

I honestly hate modern multiplayer, with essentially anonymous other players.

Nathan - what kinda games do you like?  Switch is great man.  There are tons of great games now, and I probably play Switch more than my PS4 lately --- and this coming from someone who prefers Playstation to Nintendo, generally speaking.

I don't have this one just yet, but it's on my list.  Looks like a lotta fun.

Hello!  I want your "ATLUS" stuff!  Please see my list or send me a PM if you have cool ATLUS stuff!

My PC/Steam back catalog is so big that I have been able to live without it, no matter what has come out so far.

But I am going to keep an eye on DQ/DQ2 Builders, because I don't want the price to be nutty when I eventually make the dive, so I might buy them even without owning the system.

Big thing, is I am waiting to see what "pro" version of Switch comes out to match up with the Switch Light, and what that ends up doing to original Switch prices.
(will also be interested to see how the recent news of Joycon "drift" complaints gets resolved)
