Not really NES homebrew based, but homebrew nonetheless! I've got the 2600 of my game Chunkout completed and will go on sale at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in September. I will be heading along to sell these at the expo too if anyone's after a signed copy . Thanks to Josh, Rick and Jon for all the help on getting this one sorted!

Zzap has gone to the dark and archaic side of things! But it's still interesting.

yay! the atari guys and zzap take all the credit on this one. I think rick and I were the ones to ultimately convince zzap to give it a shot. Can't wait to get my copy

I'd be curious to know what the biggest challenge was in going from NES to Atari. I think both are 6502, but I imagine theres a much more limited color and character set to deal with.

That looks amazing. I'd love to be able to get a hold of one of the boxed ones...but unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to Portland this year, I'm afraid .

Thanks for the comments guys, it was a fun little venture into a platform older than the NES!

The 6502 was nice for crossing over from the NES, but the hardest part was in writing the video routines. It's actually possible to have more colours on screen at once than on the NES, but you have to work pretty hard to time when to change colours, change the location of sprites etc (requires quite a bit of cycle counting). Also a big challenge was dropping from 2k of RAM on the NES (at times this feels limitless!) to 128 bytes, that was a bit of a killer restriction that made me have to think a bit more about how I used the memory.

If you're only selling them at the expo, I may have to find someone to pick me up a copy. That looks pretty sweet (even though I'm not an Atari collector, lol).
