Even though you guys already came to an agreement about the point racking I just wanna chime in and agree that it should be allowed. This game is so addictive!!!! I still can't loop it twice, in this run I panicked for basically no reason at all, and on the most profitable level, no less...

Funny you should say that! The first score I posted was actually not legitmate, I was playing until Game Over until I came to check the thread and noticed that I glossed over the life 0 rule. So, basically, I was cheating. Hope I'm not disqualified!

Play until Life 0???? Seriously, is there any need of this rule for this game? (Going in the basement for verification)

After testing this out, the best way to take a picture of your score and be sure that the score was peformed on Game B would be to play until Game Over, than starting a game on mode B, waiting for the Sea Hag to appear, pressing pause, take picture.

The top score is kept separately for Game A and Game B, so seeing the top score along with the sea hag is a proof that the score was made on Game B.

And in all honesty, I think an extra life is not luxury for this game. Okay Bimmy dude?

Yeah the game is still really fun with or without that extra life, deaths can happen quickly anyway. But it's no problem at all trying to get the picture if we do until Game over.

I have been playing until Life 0 and this is the best I can do so far. The hit detection is absolutely brutal in this game. There's been many times that I've died and there's at least ten pixels of daylight between me and Brutus. Makes it intense, fun, and frustrating all at the same time.

If you guys want to play until Game Over, that's fine. Pictures should now be taken when you start up a new game on Mode B. Anyone who has already submitted a score on the "Play until Life 0" rules won't have their score disqualified.

I'm also alarmed by the number of people who mentioned they did not see or overlooked that the initial rules were "Play until Life 0." Please make sure you guys are reading the rules thoroughly to ensure your scores don't get disqualified.

Basically snowed in here in MN so I got to spend some time with this one. I had never seriously played it before. Really fun game. I didn't mean to pick up that one heart before I paused but the Seahag only shows up if you drop down a level. High score is still the same. I'm going to keep working on this one. Good scores so far guys, nice job.

Update: So close to 70k, I'm having fun playing this but Brutus is one cheap bastard!

Update 2: Really tried for 100k. I made it to round 7 and I dropped one heart in the water. Well Brutus camped his fat ass right over top of it and sat there until I died. I was furious. Great game!

I admit, the sea hag is a bit of a twist for me since I've never played Popeye with her in the game. I used to play the 2600 version of this a lot, while renting the NES version only once, but not playing game B. Also, before this contest, it's been close to 20 years since the last time I played this game in any way, so that hasn't helped.

I thought I'd have more time this week but I've been wrong about that. I'll try to get a few more games in before the end of the contest, but I doubt it. I'm still glad I was able to revisit this.

Died on the third stage of the third loop. Farthest I've gotten so far. Had I tried to really point rack rather than just stay alive my score would have been higher but I was on my last life around 70k so I couldn't take any chances.
