Hi all - I'm looking to see if anyone has any leads or info regarding an ureleased SNES game from 1994/1995. The game is called Monster Wars. It was to be published by Acclaim and was featured at the Summer CES 1994 (video below). The game was based on the Monster Wars syndicated TV show that was produced by 4Kids Entertainment (those same fellows who imported Pokemon to the US). It was a monster truck racing show where the trucks were given alter ego superheroes that talked trash between races. I was 3-4 at the time when the show aired in '93-'94, and the licensing for toys and games came out in '94 with a Matchbox toy line and games for the Game Boy and Game Gear. These were top-down circuit racers but the SNES/Genesis versions were to be 3rd person driving from behind. The handheld games were named "Monster Truck Wars" but still carried the licensing from Leisure Concepts (the parent company of 4Kids).

From the research I've done, the SNES version was to use Mode 7 grapics but I haven't found any info regarding the Genesis version other than a prototype cover art. I finally came across some footage of the game which looks pretty production-ready and have attached some screenshots below. If anyone has any info on the game or has any connections that can help locate a ROM, please let me know because I'd love to help this game be preserved if possible. The game doesn't look overly spectacular in the gameplay sense, but the menus and racing brackets are very true to the TV show and I just find the entire project very interesting. I'm also very curious as to why the game would have been cancelled so close to release.

Gameplay at 59:49 (for some reason the time stamped link isn't working)

Any clue as to the developer? I have a good idea for whom it may be by, if it was for the SNES..

Unfortunately I don't have any developer info - all of the blurbs I've found about the game simply list Acclaim as the publisher. Gremlin Graphics did the GB/GG versions but I doubt they had involvement with the SNES/Genesis versions since they are so different.

If it is Acclaim, the first devs I would think of is either Sculptured Software or Igunana.

It's very possible that it was a Gremlin game.
Another Gremlin game that I've been researching had a proto for the NES made, but was released on the SNES instead.

I was actually thinking of Melbourne House/Beam Software, since they did a few racing games(Dethkarz).

It's been about a year since my original post and I've done some more digging. I found that a man named Mike Crandall did some work on the Genesis/Mega Drive version of the game regarding menus and he worked for Sculptured Software which was acquired by Acclaim wholly in October of 1995. However, the game development appeared to be finished in mid-1994 so the game would have been ready to go prior to the acquisition. If anyone has any information that they can help with, I'm eager to find out more about this game and see if there is any chance of a ROM out there somewhere that can be preserved.
