57,850. Damn those poles in the driving stages.

Don't be afraid to slow down and re-center the jeep.

Playing it safe on those stages is worth it (though the timing on the second stage is pretty tight...)

Any pros want to weigh in on how the "bonus" works on the driving stages?

I THINK it looks like it is an extra 1000 pts per aircraft killed, but I can't tell.

It is definitely not related to time, though, since on the second stage I finished with exactly zero time and was awarded 3k. (and I've received 1k or 3k on the first stage with as much as 30 seconds left on the clock)

I try to take my time, but I can't too much due to the timer. What I've been trying to do is anticipate each curve by moving my jeep to the right of the road when it curves right and vice versa. I have yet to make it through the second driving stage or even get very far in it as I'm usually down to my last life or two. What seems to kill me a lot of the time is when a plane comes at or near the same time as a car and I throw a grenade at the plane and since you can't shoot while a grenade is active it usually ends up in a collision death. I've got the first 3 stages down as I can usually no death it up to the first driving stage.
The funny thing is that if the timer expires in either driving stage all you do is lose 1 life (and also get a completely replensished timer).  At first I thought you'd get a game over if the timer ran out but that's actually not what happens.  You are probably better off just going as slow as possible and ignoring the timer instead of dying a bunch of times on these levels.  The first driving stage even has a fuel can you can pick up, so there is really no need to rush it.

This is the first time I've played this game since I did a no-death run of it last year, and also the first time I've ever tried beating the later loops.  I finally got the game over at loop 3, stage 4 (damn rocks).  I'm in the process of uploading the video and I will post a link to it when it's done.  It definately starts to get tedious after playing this golden turd for 1.5 hours lol.

What's up once you loop the game? How is it getting harder?

Here's the video for the above run:

.

Should be noted that I haven't played this game in months and this was my very first attempt since playing it last year for a no-death attempt.

On the higher loops enemies do more damage, have more life and I'm pretty sure they also move faster and are generally more aggressive.  It doesn't seem like there is much of a change to the driving stages but I'm not entirely sure.  I think there are fewer health pack drops (or none) on the gun stages later on.

I've heard that loop 3 is the max difficulty, and if that's true I'm sure I could play the game indefinately with a bit more practice and max out the score.  It would take a long ass time but it's definately possible.  Unfortunately I don't think I have the patience for that, as around loop 3 and 1.5 hours into the game it starts to become very tedious.

Thanks for your answer, that's definitely good to know the game gets significantly harder for 3 loops. Awesome run by the way.

I had notmuch time to play this week, so I wasn't sure if I had to care about loops, but Yesterday I got all the way to the final bosses. These guys are so annoying to avoid, I was able to make them go in large circle and make room for hitting them once or twice, but my wrist was hurting from constantly going in tight circle. I'm not sure if I'll give this another try cause I'm playing it really slow since it is my first time on this game. It took you 1.5 hour to get to the third loop, I think it took me more than that just to get to the final bosses, lol.

Yup, Loop 3 is definitely the max difficulty. In addition to the enemies having extra health in the fighting scenes, the shooting level bosses are also much harder. In particular, the Stage 7 bosses have so much health that they usually kill you before you can kill them, even if you start with a full life meter. They can be beaten, but it's really tough, particularly with a zapper.

Pegboy, great job on beating the game twice!

You can still pick them up if they fall into the water.  It might be hard to find it but it doesn't vanish, however, the crocs can pick it up again as well.  You just need to beat it out of them again

Them picking it up again explains it. Because I would comb the water bit by bit and would never find it and I knew it dropped. Thx.

The Yoshi's Cookie contest is now up. Adventures of Bayou Billy will not end early and will still end at 11 PM NA time tonight. So, if you're tired of dealing with Mr. Big and beating giant crocs, go give Yoshi's Cookie a try and chow down on some cookies

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

I don't know. I've knocked three of them out of one croc and it went nowhere near the spot it dropped. I think they do drop out some of the time.

Either way I feel cheated when I see meat drop and I need it and comb the whole area and never find it. Moving on to Yoshis Cookie

I hardly had any time to play this week and I still think I got a decent score.  I think my takeaway from this week is that this game is still really annoying, but a somewhat better game than I remembered.

My opinion on this game has changed. As a kid I didn't think it was that great plus it was pretty difficult. Now I think the game is actually pretty good and definitely underrated. And while it's still a tough game,it's not as hard as I thought it was back then. Highly doubt I'll beat it before the contest is up,but I'm definitely going to beat this sometime soon.

I don't think it's as terrible as people made it out to be, but it does have some serious flaws. I would give it a 6.5/10 if I was going to tag an arbitrary score on it. The developers had a lot of great ideas though.

I'm pretty much only shooting for a participation point anyway, that's a terrible phone picture.  I freaked out because I died in the driving stage and was in a hurry to get the score captured, should've remembered it keeps track of the high score.  It only occured to me after I'd shut off the NES.

Yeah,I feel like this game could've been on a lot of people's top 20 or even top 10 lists had they made a few adjustments to the game before they released it.

This game is great, whatever its reputation. For sure it has some obvious flaws, but it is fully enjoyable as it is. How  such a commercial could lie?

So close!  Beating those guys is definately an excercise in patience and precise timing to get in those hits.

Totally agree about Bayou Billy.  I've always liked this game, even as a kid.  The farthest I ever got back then was stage 6, and I thought at the time that it was impossible to beat that level haha.

It was the first time I got to the final bosses, so I semi-understood the strategy to beat them, but failed due to some wrist hurting. After seeing how you fight them, I would have much more chances to beat them with your technique.

I'd be open to play this game in contest in the future, there's definitely room to find alternative rules as well.
