2016 WEEK 1 SANTA WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE!!! - SUPER MARIO BROS.
****************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Ho! Ho! Ho! eSports fans! The 2016 Nintendoage Weekly Contests have once again begun and boy competition all week has been heating up.
Many World Class NES players both old and new to the contests have already posted some amazing scores.
There is less than 24 hours left for anyone who has not yet posted a score this week to get in on the action. Perhaps some of the already posted scores will jump even higher too!
Anyway... on to the weeks highlights!

NEW RULES FOR 2016 SEASON ARE IN EFFECT!
Braintrust of super smart geniuses streamline rules to make NA contest even better
A collation of current and former contest players and moderators spent months in the off season collaborating, bickering and arm wrestling to ensure the NA Weekly Contests are the best they have ever been.
The Contests have been going on for a number of years and the moderators in charge felt it was time for an overhaul of the rules to make things more balanced and enjoyable for everyone who participates this year.
Many things were disscussed - both from a moderator and player stand point. If you are not familiar with the new rules, here is a short synapse of the most notable changes...
- 1 Year Long Contest instead of 2.
- The Top 8 Scorers will place this year instead of the top 10 each week.
- Anyone scoring over the participation threshold will be awarded 3 points
- A bye week will be observed every few weeks to give players and mods a break to prevent NES burnout
- Playoffs will start at the end of the year with top scorers qualifying for a chance to win it all!
Also new for 2016... 2015 Season 1 Champion bearcat_doug is now retired and moderating the contests along with formerly retired champions bimmy_lee and guillavoie.
2015 Season 2 Champion bertsampson has made a snazzy new leaderboard that will be updated throughout each week so participants can get a feel for where they stand against their rivals. 2016 is already shaping up to be the best NA Championship yet!

ELITE MILLIONAIRES CLUB SHOWCASING "WHO TO WATCH" FOR THE 2016 SEASON
These 4 players have all scored over 1 million points on a one death run in Super Mario Bros. and look to be early season favorites for the contests moving forward
Who is the biggest dog on the playground this year? Nintendoage has a storied past with world records being broken and world record holders showing up to lay down the law.
This is only week 1 of the season, but these 4 players are putting out a message early that they are here to win (even though bearcat_doug's scores are only for bragging rights).
Take a look at these players' insane scores - and keep an eye on these top performers throughout the year.
1. erizisto: (4th place finisher in the season last year. When he's good, he's REAL GOOD. Very dangerous and skilled competitor) - 1,237,250
2. kamakaze_ekun: (new kid on the block? How does this guy not have a participation icon yet? This score is INSANE! Keep an eye on him.) - 1,103,350
3. bearcat_doug*: (Champion of just about everything, he has gone into retirement - but I'm sure will post scores here and there to lay down a high water mark.) - 1,040,800*
4. skinnygrinny: (a gritty and tough competitor, skinny's score almost always climbs several times during the week. If you want to beat him, you're going to have to work for it.) - 1,012,800
There are still a whole slew of top tier competitors that have posted (and have yet to post) scores. I have never seen so many top tier players competing at the same time. This writer is extremely excited to see what the rest of the season holds.

BROCK LANDERS MANIA WEEK ON NINTENDOAGE!
This week belongs to Brock Landers: He's doing it all this week!
Brock Landers is a man of many talents - and we here at the Santa Weekly News Update would like to showcase all of the things Mr. Landers has been doing this week for everyone here at Nintendoage as a show of our appreciation.
The Week of Landers includes...
- An admirable score posted this week of 844,500 thus far in the NES Weekly Contest
- Brock's contributions to the "Can NA beat every NES/SNES/N64 game in a year" threads
- Brock's SNES Weekly Contests
- Brock's apparant lynching in the NA Forum Game "WEREWOLF VI: Caves of Narshe" where he had the difficult role of independent thief
- Even Mrs. Landers has joined the fray with a valid participation score of 118,900!
To Mr. (and Mrs.) Landers - you've made a bunch of contributions to NA in the past weeks and Nintendoage is better for your involvement. Thank you, and good luck the rest of the season(s).

WEEK 5 OF THE NA NES WEEKLY CONTESTS TO HONOR "JD" - JOHN HEINS
Nintendoage learned the sad news of the passing of this former mod and dynamite person
Earlier this week, Nintendoage learned of the passing of it's own "JD" after his battle with an illness. Many members here (myself included) were deeply saddened by the tragic news.
Aside from being an amazingly helpful and kind person, JD was highly skilled in both Donkey Kong and the NES game 1943. As such, there has been mentioning that Week 5 of these contests will be played in memorium of JD.
The Week 5 Game is 1943.
We cannot bring JD back, but as a gaming community it'd be nice to show appreciation for a guy who did so much - by doing what we do best.
Even if you cannot post a score, pop in 1943 with us in a few weeks and give it your best. 1943 will be for you JD. You are missed.

NEW PARTICIPANTS
Not all of these scores are by new participants, but will the powers that be get these players a much deserved icon!!!!???
Each week, we will try to make a list of all the players that have submitted a valid score that do not yet have that Contest badge of honor (the link icon holding a controller).
Everyone who posts a valid score is supposed to be awarded one of these. Hopefully, this will make it easier for Moderators to award them.
To be knighted with the Contest Badge...
- kamakaze_ekun: 1,103,350
- Brock Landers: 844,500
- RichardHead: 528,900
- Philosoraptor: 492,900
- Milwaukee_Nintendo: 380,350
- NostalgicMachine: 297,950
- laddersandcakes: 182,350
- Jandrem: 165,550
- Kawaii_kills: 156,550

A Warm Welcome to all the new comers.
